I just got an email asking about where to get O-rings for Tau-7's. I've come up with a bunch of info over several years of maintaining the MIT collegiate team pistols. This query spurred me to finally organize my notes & put together a write-up.

I've attached a PDF, in case it will help someone else. If someone has anything to add, or other sources, please let me know.

I have a couple of Tau air pistols I use for a 4H league. The Tau Junior is very nice for youth. UNTIL....
Recently it is shooting very weak. Noticeable lag time between shot and impact in target. Pellets stick in cardboard target backer. It is not low on CO2. But acts like it is. I'd like to have a place to send these and have them overhauled. Failing that I'd like someone to direct me on how to troubleshoot, disassemble and repair. Comments and suggestions requested.

Probably a simple fix. If you get weak shots and there is no sign of a leak on firing, it probably means the velocity screw has backed out. One way to check for other leaks is to drape a tissue over the pistol (but not the muzzle), and then fire it. If the tissue goes flying, you have a leak, probably one of the breech seals.

Unscrew the screw holding the forend on just a couple turns. It operates a clamp mechanism, and you don't need to remove the screw completely. Slide the forend forward. Underneath, at the very front of things will be a large screw with a spring. This is what sets the force of the "hammer", which knocks the firing valve open. The harder that hammer taps the valve, the more gas you get.

The screw on many pistols is quite loose, and it will unscrew itself over time, sometimes rather abruptly. Try turning that in a turn & see if that helps. If so, continue to adjust it a half a turn at a time until it sounds & behaves like the other. A small dab of purple Locktite will prevent it from slipping again. Ideally, you should tune it up with a chronograph and then check it for grouping, but I suspect your average 4H shooter won't notice much difference.

I'd guess somewhere between 420 & 480 FPS. If you can get good consistent velocity & groups at 420 FPS, your CO2 will last a bit longer. I haven't done the experiments, but the claim is that the groups will exhibit several ups & downs over that range. Ideally, you want to use the lowest velocity that gives you good groups.

I've just reset the few pistols I've had to adjust to ~ 420 FPS, and they seem to shoot fine.

I thought it would be something simple but had no idea it would be that simple. Thanks to this forum and Pilk for hosting such a great community of shooters. 4H league tonight and all 3 Tau are running great. I set the junior at 380, the regular size right and left hand are both set 420~430. AND I had reason to break the seal on the box of my daylight adapter for the chrono. WAY better than waiting for the perfect overcast day to do chrono work.

you can order parts or indeed a new pistol direct from the factory. I found them very good to deal with and they sent me a TAU 7 match very quickly :)

Is there any way to get the web site to display in English? It looks much improved from the last time I checked it, but I can't understand more than a tiny fraction of it. I looked around for the usual "language" buttons to click, but didn't see any.

Never mind, I looked again & found it. A small "en" near the upper left. However, the English translated bits appear in only some spots. I couldn't find a "parts" section, for example.

I was playing around on their site and figured out some but not all of it. What would happen if you ordered directly from them? Do you think your order would get hung up in customs and you would never see it?

Small stuff like parts is probably not a big deal. I'm not so sure about ordering a pistol. US Customs & duty processing is a very strange business. A lot depends on putting EXACTLY the right label on the shipment. For example, if you buy a wool kilt from Scotland, and the label says "woolen goods", there is a big tariff. If it says "ethnic costume", it's duty free. If you buy a sight mount and get them to label it "hardware", it's free. If Customs decides it's "Optics", there's a big tariff.

The other thing is that most European countries include VAT in their pricing, which (in theory) you shouldn't have to pay if you are outside the EU. Outfits that do a lot of overseas business (like Rink grips) have this all factored into their web site pricing, so you can get with & without VAT. I didn't see nay such provision at BRNO's site. In theory, that means there should be a significant discount over the listed prices, but you'd have to negotiate with them to get the VAT taken off.

I just received the gun and I cannot find any videos on how to charge the gun. It has a threaded male end coming out of the grip but nothing in the box seems to screw onto the treads. I have two of the compressed gas piercing caps, to be switched after each use, I have a cylinder wrench (I think) it is a big barrel thingy...

This is for my daughters Tetrathlon and I have noway of finding out how to use this gun. I went to a range and they were befuddled as well as they do not sell airguns.

Please help me charge this gun and find a knowledgeable person for instruction within two hours driving of Greenville, SC.

It sounds like it came with the bulk fill adapter installed on the bottom at the grip. You probably want to use the CO2 cartridge adapters. You use the "wrench" (large tube) with the round pin end to unscrew the bulk fill adapter.

COCK THE HAMMER (pull forward on the two ears under the loading gate). Install a CO2 cartridge with the nipple at the open end, and then screw on one of the two piercing adapters with the small pin in the center, using the wrench. That will punch a hole in the tip of the cartridge, and you should be ready to go.
