Any preparations to the pistol before a match?

I have cleaned my air pistols about 3 times in 15 years. I am not sure it really made any difference. I used TSI 301 on a pulled through patch FWIW.
I don't claim to be an expert on cleaning anything.

I've had my Alfa Proj for 3 years now and I have never cleaned it, no noticeable change in accuracy.

I shot a couple of felt pellets every time I end a tin (500). Just for peace of mind.

For many years I have used the VFG cleaning system with felt pellets every couple of matchs (150-200 pellets) and annually (5,000 pellets) with the super intensive lead removal felts.
Lead does build up, but not at the rate that you think. Use the lead removal system if you have a noticable degraded performance.
The super intensive felts are used until the felts come out clean with no lead colour, it also will remove any surface corrosion and improve the barrel surface finish.
Do not do it just before a big match, clean it, train a match quantity, then go to your comp.

I'm pretty much the same. I've never noticed any difference even with a deep clean. More importantly performance has never deteriorated noticeably, so I don't bother.
