pellet weight

Post by mctrucky »

Hi all,

I use a Morini 162ei.

I batch tested pellets a couple of years back and ended up with a load of H&N Finale match rifle pellets, with velocity cranked up.

When these ran out I went back to RWS R10 pistol pellet and backed off the velocity to compensate for the lighter pellet. (Ran both pellets about 505 fps)

I recently tested the QY Chinese pellets, and got some good results with one batch, and poor results with a different batch (although same size and weight).

I'll buy 10k of the 'good' batch, and then adjust velocity to optimise - but my question is: Is there a down side to using heavier rifle pellets in a pistol? (Note Morini has no lp10 style recoil absorbtion).

Thanks,
McT

In my very limited experience with light (7.0) grain pellets vs 8.0-8.3 grain pellets, the shot is closer to my call. My assumption for this is the shorter barrel time and recoil that is all but gone. I just tried some R10 lights and wish I did not have 5K H&N 7.7 grain pellets to use up first.
