Well JOs are over and figured might as well start training on the new rules as much as possible. Modified my daughters pants and boots.

Had to remove the seat patch from the KT Expert pants ... pretty painless ... sharp knife to the threads.

Boots are trickier, but with a bench sander (belt & pad) it's also pretty easy. Took less time to do it than to peel the old sanding pad off the sander and put a new one on.

Since these are Sauer boots there is very little "meat" to the sole at the heel of the boot ... on the belt sander part, I just lightly formed a curve at the rear ... nicked the boot a few times, but generally got it so that there is no flat spot and the heels have continuous curves:

Boot toes were real easy ... I used a wide permanent marker that had a 4mm wide tip and marked the toes to make sure that it was less than 5mm and a continuous curve:

Finally, took the sharp knife and cut a "flex channel" where the sole flexes to make sure it bends ... hard to gauge how this works without one of the BootFlexMachine (Stiefel-Flexibilitäts-Maschine???)....

Not much I can do for the jacket ... a KT Adventure ... It has a horizontal seam in the 20-70mm area, even though the elbow does not rest on the jacket. Luckily she was measured for a new set of gear this weekend and her college coach will pay for it.

Now start training the new positions order and the new finals procedures.
Whole new ballgame.

I don’t know if cutting the sole of the boots was necessary but it seems like an excellent method of making sure you pass the rules in the future.

She's taken care of them over the years and they were pretty stiff ... since so little is known about that new machine (USAS does not have one yet I don't think), I don't want any issues during the check.
In kneeling the force from her position is from the heel to the upper toe of the boot, so the cut will not compromise that in the least.

What I was surprised at was the wear of the seat patch where her boot was in contact with it ... it had worn off ALL of the non-slip surface. I think it's going to be required to use the removed & cut down seat patch or another pad to keep from wearing a hole in the pants ... don't shoot without something there ...

One of my shooters has the Saur boots and we've just gone through the grinding and as standard they pass the bending machine easily.
The jacket you need a good jacket tailor, they take out the whole right side panel and replace it with a single piece, costs about £150 here.

Is it possible the test process could still fail those boots depending on where the hinge point is selected? I would hope the tester would be reasonable in setting it up.

I feel great sympathy for those individuals who have to comply to the rules and the subsequent costs involved when existing gear is really perfectly fine.

That's my issue with having to do something like this ... that's 3/4 the cost of a new jacket. (Note: it's the Adventure, not an Expert)
While USA Shooting is not enforcing that rule (yet), those expecting to go to INTL comps are going to have to comply.

Nice work on the boots / pants. Congratulations to Rachel again. She is going to need that gear to be ready for international competitions now that she has made the Jr National Team!!!!!

For those who may not know, jhmartin's daughter, Rachel took the silver medal last week in Colorado Springs at the Jr Olympics. He may not brag on her, but I will...... Way to go Rachel!!
