For the sighting shots allowed before the actual competition shots..
Is it legal to shoot them TWO handed?
Is it legal to intentionally totally miss the target (but not cross fire) for the sighting shots?
Is it legal to do minor adjustment that require tools (moving the front sight blade front and back using hex screwdriver, switching the battery) while in between sighting shots?
Fixing your shooting glasses including changing lenses and filters.
Are there any other things that are illegal or be penalized during the actual competition but is legal during sighting...and in fact, commonly used by competitors?

Is it legal to shoot them TWO handed?
- Yes, but why would you. The shot impact will be in a different place with two hands than with one.
Is it legal to intentionally totally miss the target (but not cross fire) for the sighting shots?
- No, but again why would you. Waste of ammo. (Except dry gas discharge to exercise valves/springs in airpistol or fouling shot in MLIAC blackpowder.)
Is it legal to do minor adjustment that require tools (moving the front sight blade front and back using hex screwdriver, switching the battery) while in between sighting shots?
- No, provided that the changes do not alter the pistol to be outside of match specification. ie lighten trigger or lengthen sight radius etc. If in doubt you may be able return the pistol back to gun check.
Fixing your shooting glasses including changing lenses and filters.
- Yes, provided they are not altered to outside of the rules.(blinders etc.)

Re: Sighting Shots
- in any case, EXPECT to be spoken to by the range officials - 6.12.7.a (and note the penalties). They would only be complying with their responsibilities, orconradin wrote:For the sighting shots allowed before the actual competition shots..Is it legal to shoot them TWO handed?
- if an ajoining shooter claims to be disturbed by your actions (6.11.9, 6.16.4.1)
- might not be a popular move with the venue operators (or the Jury, 6.10.3.2)conradin wrote:...Is it legal to intentionally totally miss the target (but not cross fire) for the sighting shots?
There has to be a reason it is called Preparation Time.conradin wrote:For the sighting shots allowed before the actual competition shots..
