is there a way to date a Walther OSP

Post by 69daytona »

Hi. Just found this site.

I bought an old Walther OSP a few weeks ago, came with 3 mags and a barrel weight, manual and extra GSP trigger group.

It is the round barrel with 4 ports on top.

Is there any way to tell when it was made?

Looks like it was made in 65. I have the bottom hand brace, hand is just to big to keep it on the grip.

I put the OSP trigger group back in it for some fun shooting, lets off at 100grams.

The GSP is set for 1350 grams. Now to get some time to go shooting.

That's an oldie. My first OSP had a round barrel Ser No. 052xx and was purchased in 1970.
My first Walther 22 was the Hammerli-Walther Olympia in 22LR purchased in 1954 for the then princely sum of $200.

You can date a Walther GSP/OSP by the two letter stamp on the LHS of the action just to the fore of the trigger guard. A=0, B=1, and so on so (for example) IG = 86, i.e. 1986.

Hope that helps.

I get to pick it up from the gun shop tomorrow and will post some pics then. I did not notice any marks forward of the trigger guard, will look at it close when I get it home.

How to date a Walther?

Ring him up and say, "Hi Walther. If you're not doing anything on Saturday night, I'd like to take you to dinner."
