Dropping out of shots. What did you do to fix if you did?

Post by Bowman26 »

I have been dropping out of a lot of shots lately and I can't quite put my finger on the problem. I can see it while dry firing at times when it happens but don't know if it is something I am doing as I break the shot or perhaps something with my position that changes.

It gets me to the point I start to anticipate dropping the shot and hold slightly high to compensate only to execute the shot perfect and watch it go right over the top where I was holding.

This is all silhouette btw. I don't seem to do it with near as much frequency with air rifles as I do smallbore. Frustrating to run your 1st 5 Rams only to put 3 between the legs on the next 5. I had one run this past weekend on Turkeys that I blanked all 5 on the 1st bank and then ran the next 5.

I know most of you shoot 10m, 50m etc here but I was wanting to pick your brains about what I should look for to correct this problem. Besides the dry firing and live shooting on paper I plan to do at home in hopes of figuring it out.

So what y'all think?

Many years ago I found I was having similar symptoms (on indoor 50 foot standing targets), and found I was exhaling as I fired the shot. I switched from firing with "half a breath held" to firing during the "Natural respiratory pause" and solved my problem.

Natural point of aim isn't on the target but below is a guess... test for it.
