steyr aperture size

Post by Peakconti »

I have a steyr LG100 and want to go to a smaller aperture size. I am just not sure what the outsize diamater is. The aperture that fit the rifle is smalelr than my anschutz apertures. I know Champions Choice sells aperturs in the M22 or the M18 size. I am guessing that since its smaller it would be the M18 size. Anyone know what size the LG100 takes in the front Sight? I am guessing most rifles use the M22 thinking that stands for 22 milimiters? and 18 is slightly smaller?

I currently have a 3.2 in my front size and want to go to a 3.0 so I need to purchase one that fits my air rifle.

Yes M22 = 22mm (the nominal outside diameter). M18 = 18mm. Anschutz foresights are M18 size, so if these are too large for your Steyr, other M18 elements will also be too large.

Are you shooting standing at 10 mts on ISSF targets? if so 3.2 is small, 3 is very small, and you will have so small a ring of white you will see more refracted light than true white, and unless you are shooting high 590's you will fnd it very difficult to have a stable enough hold to get a sight picture.
Good shooting

so if the normal anshutz size is m18 then this must be smaller than that. I guess its like a m16 who would sell that.

And no I do not shoot 590's. I shoot decent enough for my age. I have a decent hold. I shoot with a very small apature in prone and as my vision has gotten worse as I have gotten older I find it easer to center the target. I figured I would try a smaller one in air rifle as I am having the same problem trying to determine if its centered perfect. If I see all white I know its centered. My hold does not wable, it moves arround then stops, hopefully on the ten ring.

I've owned both Steyr LG-100 and LGH-110 air rifles.

My LG-100 had a M-18 for sight tunnel and my LG-110 had a M-22 tunnel.
Just quote the size of you tunnel when buying new plastic elements.
If in doubt, it will be written down in the owners hand book on the guns spec list.
The only instance I can recall of a 16-MM for sight tunnel was on the FWB 300 series and early 600 air rifles.

I certainly would not recommend using a element size of less than 4.0-mm in the standing position as explained by Robin C.

Thanks for the info, I will check my owners manual, should have check there first I get, I honestly can not imagine shooting with a 4.0, the only aperture that I have that fits it is a 3.2. I am starting to think I should just stick to that. Perhaps when I order that I will get a slightly larger size as well to try that out too.

solved

I solved my own problem, I discovered that I can put one of my old Anschutz front sight onto my air rifle, then simple put the size aperture that I wanted in that. I will try shooting with a 3.0, but will also try shooting a larger size and see what works best.
