Bob Mitchell, Exec Director of USA Shooting has had numerous conversations with numerous US federal agencies to include TSA, Homeland Security, DOT, etc. He even met face to face with key stakeholders in Washington DC last year and NO progress has been made due to the inability of the above named agencies to make a decision specifically related to transportation of airgun air cylinders.
This inability of these federal agencies to make a decision about harmless, empty air cylinders is beyond unbelievably ridiculous ‘paralytic’ or apathetic behavior.
We would like to solicit your support to actively contact any and all congressmen/women and Senators to press for someone at Homeland Security or TSA to make a decision in support of transporting ‘empty’, harmless compressed air cylinders for target air pistols and air rifles in checked bags (what do they do about aluminum base ball bats, hollow empty aluminum cylinders?).
Whoever you contact on this topic, I would appreciate being copied on your message or an email from you describing who you have contacted and what they can do to help resolve this issue of transporting empty air cylinders by our athletes.
