Does Ft. Benning still host a 3x Rapid match? Or any RF?

Post by tedbell »

As I mentioned in my "new prescription" post, I'm returning to RF after about a 5 year hiatus. I've checked USAS's list of upcoming matches for any RF within a region centered on NC, but the only thing listed for 2012 right now is Salt Lake City. Does the club that used to host PTO's at Ft. Benning still host them? Does Ft. Benning still offer a 3xRF match? Does Ft. Benning offer RF clinics any more? I've contacted Doc in Charleston SC about shooting RF there - anyone know of any other RF matches in the south eastern US?

Thanks,
Ted

Apparently the CO for Ft Benning doesn't want the public on "his" range, so the opportunities are very limited there (I'm an hour north of Columbus). From asking about, it seems like this is an on-again, off-again type thing that changes with the CO, and the current one is due to move on this next spring.

Richard Hawkins is the coach down there that runs the CF/Bullseye clinics, I think I have his email somewhere if you can't find it. But he'd be the one to talk with about what IS offered at Ft Benning for RF. I know there was some sort of clinic coming up, though it's not listed on the AMU site that I can find.

There is a PTO match with Free pistol and Standard pistol at the Citadel this up-coming January 14~15. Send me a PM with your email address and I'll forward the match program. I'd point you to it with a link, but it was forwarded to me as well.

How about Virginia?

There are 2 clubs in VA. Cavalier (North of Richmond) and LaFayette (VA Beach area). USAShooting has their exact address.

Cavalier is a straight shot up I95, exit Lewistown (?) Rd.

Thanks for the info. Cavalier is just shy of 400 miles from me, but it looks like right now my only two opportunities are Charleston and Cavalier, so I'll probably make the drive at least a couple times this year.

I should make up some T-Shirts: "Rapid Fire Pistol- the only thing harder than shooting the course is finding a place to do it!"

Thanks,
Ted

Cavalier has a strong FP & Std pistol program. Few attend the RP as it's last on the list that day. The Saturday schedule normally is: #1 FP, #2 Std, #3 RP.

LaFayette has Sport then RP (I've only attended once). More attend RP here and you'll get some local competition. They shoot on Sundays

If you could align both on the same weekend, you could be in heaven!

Let me ask you a question, my son lives in Charlotte NC. Where to shoot around there (Silhouette or Intl)? You could PM me.
