10 meter air rifle finals
I don't know why but I have become a fan of
the woman's 10 meter air rifle
(the most obvious and silly thing is they are ladies!)
The men are so stoic There is much emotion in the ladies.. The reactions even the smiles at the end are just "different" from the mens shooting...
I won't want the womens shooters to take up the "manly" game face
the men put on.. The women have the game face on when they shoot but don't seem to need it when they are done and can show real emotion.
Ms. Emmons was emotional after she help her country qualify for the olympics (besides shooting much better than she has lately) There is no
way to fake that sincerity.. Its just different.
A couple of things I was curious about
Its seems that only recently they have begun announcing the
score of each shot right away. None of the commentators or competitors
seem to think its a good idea. Does it really hurt the shooting
or just make the tension on the shooter greater?
I must admit though as a spectator (esp on screen) it adds to the shoot
and makes each shot more interesting.
It is amazing how one shot can move you up or down in a hurry.
The other thing is the women only use 400 shots to qualify. I assume this
is a traditional matter... I doubt if any of those shooters would have
a problem with 600 shots.
(though it does make a direct comparison a bit more obvious)
In the finals I don't see that the women score any worse than the men
maybe slightly but it seems fairly equal...]
I am sure we are years away (if ever) from unisex competition It does seem
that in the near future it would be very competitive to have everyone shoot together.
Am I way off base on this.
Given that men would have a huge advantage on other shooting sports
I doubt the would ever combine the two for just the one event.

Re: 10 meter air rifle finals
I believe that the finals have always been scored after each shot.proudhon wrote:Its seems that only recently they have begun announcing the score of each shot right away.
I haven't heard people complaining.proudhon wrote:None of the commentators or competitors seem to think its a good idea.
Re: 10 meter air rifle finals
Exactly the opposite to be honest. Matt Emmons was helping commentate at Munich and he said he thought the new way was much better from all perspectives.David Levene wrote:proudhon wrote:I haven't heard people complaining.proudhon wrote:None of the commentators or competitors seem to think its a good idea.

it is safe to assume that it is directly to avoid any comparison.proudhon wrote:...The other thing is the women only use 400 shots to qualify. I assume this is a traditional matter... I doubt if any of those shooters would have a problem with 600 shots.

no advantage to the men that I have seen. At those levels of ISSF events competition where the men and women compete in open competition (many national competitions) the women are right up there and often outshooting the men.proudhon wrote:...

Mens advantage
I was thinking of the run or ski and shoot events.
, the men would have an advantage there.
As to the new scoring I didn't hear Matts comments
I was going on some comments at the Womens world cup
finals...
I really enjoy the scoring method. and hope they leave it alone
Most probably it was done to make it TV friendly.
if its no problem for the shooter all the better.

THAT is what the whole finals thing is for; to be nice for TV.

A man was hit by a cab in the street. He was brought to the hospital. His wife who was standing up by his bed, said to the
doctor: "I think that he is very ill." "I am afraid that he is dead."said the doctor,Hearing this, the man moved his head and
said: "I'm not dead. I'm still alive." "Be quiet, "said the wife. "the doctor knows better than you!"
Just then a voice called from outside the door, "If you do, I won't go."
