Prone training with a Scatt

Post by Pwilson »

I’m a smallbore prone shooter. I have been recently experimenting with a Scatt. I am now planning to use this device at least twice a week in the coming months in order to improve my technique.

How can this device help me to track my shooting technique improvements ? I read that the scores are not that important with a Scatt. Over the months, among all the available info from this electronic trainer, what should I monitor in order to confirm that my shooting is getting better ? Average steadiness in the 10 ? Average length of tracing ? Stability of aiming ?

Thanks for your input !

I suggest you rewind and look at what specifically you are training. So if you are working on your triggering, you can monitor things like smoothness of shot release (evidence as next to no disturbance in the traces). You will of course get things like trace length, amount of time in the 10 ring etc - I prefer the 10.5a - amount of time in area the size of the 10.5 ring (or 10 ring if your level is such).

The scatt is merely a tool to monitor what you're doing. I suggest focus on specific elements and and every month or so, just see how the average trace lengths are changing.

You can only check if it's working by shooting live fire (without the scatt).
