May I add another difference between the several issues of the book: The german version "Sportliches Pistolenschießen" by Ragnar Skanaker and Laslo Antal, published by Motorbuch Verlag in 1991, was based on the 1985 published first english edition (with a drawing of Ragnar and Eric Buljung on the cover, a foreword by Marv Epling of Crosman and an special article by Frank Briggs). But it was from the first german edition on not only translated 1:1, but actualised, and we also added some special german rules, shooters, guns etc. I'm pretty sure about that - because I was the translater and later on also co-author (with permit from Ragnar) for the next three, very successful german editions.
The latest, 4th edition was done in 1999, it holds a special chapter about final shooting (which wasn't known in 85), the change from CO2 to PCP airpistols, actualised rules, new records and addresses. Motorbuch Verlag stopped the distribution after the 4th edition was sold out last summer - the book would have had to be nearly edited in every chapter because of so many changes in the last decade since '99. I refused to do that, because already approx. 1/4 of the pictures used were from my archive at that time, a lot of the texts. I would have had to add a lot more new photos, and I hadn't the time to do another reprint with all the necessary changes, only to be mentioned as interpreter on page 3.
In the meantime I had already written two chapters in "Olympisches Pistolenschiessen" from Heinz Reinkemeier, published by MEC - and this book would be my recommendation today if anybody asks for a good 2010 pistol book. Unfortunately the english translation ist still on its way, as far as I know.
My english isn't good enough to express my sad feelings understanding that Laslo Antal passed away earlier this year, from his daughter's posting above. I have never met him personally - we had only a phone call around 1990 before we started the german version - I deeply regret this. But his word and great knowledge about pistol shooting will always be a part of the book, either in the original version and also the german edition.

Ulrich-
Just feed the German manuscript into the tools on http://translate.google.com and then have good English editor review it (I'll volunteer) and it will be done in a few months at most.

Hm, wait, let me say, hm: although I'm only one of the authors of that book and not the publishers (that's Reinkemeier) I agree with him that our quality standards for a readable translation with the correct "shooting vocabulary" are much beyond Googles possibliities...
Just a quick test: Would you really like to read a text (or even longer texts) like this?? And would you understand this??

Getting a copy from Ms. Lucy Antal via Paypal payment, for the ones outside England that could be an option, once she finds out postage costs to your country.
To clarify, there is an original (original translation) publication in english, 1985, by Mr Antal & Skanaker;
and subsequent english editions by Mr. Antal only that differ slightly from the original;
and german editions that have been upgraded through the years
thanks for the help.

Mr Antal & Skanaker book.
Whilke the book byMr Antal & Skanaker is very good it is also very old and outdated. During that period every one used the physical shooting technwue but now the best shoote uses the mental shooting technique and that includes pistol and shotgun as well as rifle.
I just finished Mr. Antal book edition and it was a great read, still some nuggets for a self taught shooter like me, and the basics are always good to revisit.
The Skanaker&Antal edition "Pistol Shooters" is a very similar edition to "Competitive Pistol Shooting", and it is very hard to find differences.
Here is a thought provoking nugget I enjoyed, there is a lot I would change on this graphic, like a constant pressure on the trigger is not a variable, but there are more variables that are not there, this is a complex sport and I would say it takes about 12-15 simultaneous variables coming together to get a 10.

Just wanted to say "thank you" to everyone that's put nice comments about my dad, Laslo Antal - it's a comfort to know he was well thought of, I miss him very much. I'm posting all the books as soon as they are ordered, so I hope everyone gets them soon.

....
I got an email back from Mec and they are expecting the english translation to be ready at the end of the year.
I discovered the book with a book search service ( http://manualfox.com/books ), they sent me a bibliographic citation with libraries around Liverpool - with this information it was just a matter of 20 minutes car drive and I had it in my hands... just send them a search request and tell them where you live.

Did they say the end what year? Have heard that for 5 years now, I wouldn't hold my breath. I do hope it is true, even going through the Germany version there's lots of good stuff in it.
