Did Izzy cough up a seal?

Post by Cousin Jack »

Pardon my ignorance, but I'm less than 100 rounds "acquainted" with my IZH......and I just found this seal on the floor near where I shoot...... What did I do? Did the damn thing pop out of the gun somewhere? And how do I get it back....gun seems to shoot......nervous wreck, me.....

The Izzy has a peculiarity in the cocking mechanism. When the breech block is up the gun will not fire. If it is lowered, but not pressed firmly into place, then it can fire but will blow the lower seal out. Been there, done that. Just as I aborted a shot, someone came to the door so I thought that popping the breech block would "safe" the pistol. I don't know what the kid selling cable thought of someone answering the door with shooting glasses (with blinder) on, but when I resumed there was a bang and the seal went flipping away. Defying the laws of nature, it landed on a clear area of the carpet and was quickly found. It is a procedure I have not cared to repeat.

lucky you!

the christmas/new year break is my traditional 'clean out the gunbox' season, with the inevitable "what did that little part come out of" questions!

If anybody is missing two little flat-head screws, chances are that I have found them (becuase I am SURE they don't come out of my pistols)

Happy New Year to all.

(ps. if anybody has found the spring out of my old OSP sights that went missing in the back room at chez Tweedie some years back, I don't need it as that pistol is now defunct thanks to the Australian buy-back a few years ago)
