Clark Custom M41 barrels

I have been shooting BE for almost two years now.

I have a 7" M41, newer model using a 4 dot match dot scope.

Was looking for input on the Clark barrel # CLK-570-BO in 5.5"

Anyone with any experience with this barrel.

Just looking to up my score a little more on the long line.

My personal best is 868-36x for the .22

You won't buy a higher score. One of my factory M41 barrels is at least equal to my Free pistol in terms of accuracy.

My suggestion is to take the money for a new barrel and put it towards an Air Pistol for Slow Fire practice, not to mention ISSF shooting (the basis for this forum).

Have not seen you in awhile.

Was at PRGC today to pay my annual dues and shot a round of free pistol with my TOZ.
Shot a 487, not too bad for not firing it for about 7 months : )

As far as an air pistol, I do shoot an Izzy, my best score is a 548.

So lets get back to my original question.

Sorry, gotta disagree on this one. The S&w Model 41 is probably one of the few .22s where you really can "buy points". I've had a couple (2 out of 3) and seen lots more that would not group well at at at 50 yards with quite a selection of .22 ammo. The factory barrels tend to be quite tight and the chambers, throats, crowns, etc. can vary considerably in quality.

Put the gun in a Ransom rest and make sure it's the gun. If it is, the Clark option is a way to start. I've had a total of 3 Clark barrels and they shot well, and considerably better than the factory barrel in those 3 guns.

I did like the balance of the newer 5.5 inch STC version if a dot scope mount version is what you are looking for.

Sitting here looking at the two barrel options, the BO and the STC.

The BO rear scope notch is shallower than the rest of the rail notches.

So am really thinking hard of the STC, just have to move the scope forward which is no big deal.

I have shot all kinds of ammo at the long line with the 7" M41, but I actually shoot my Rock River .45 better at the long line(go figure).
I have a ton of 98's with the .45(the one hanging next to me is a 98-4x with an 8 at 8:30(boy did that upset me).

My best .22 long line is 97-3x and that was only once.

I really believe it is the barrel and that is why I am considering a new one.

If I can gain some points at the long line with it, I will be thrilled.
If not, no big deal, we have to try something when all experiments have failed to improve my long line in the .22 match.

Just got off the phone with John Zurek a few minutes ago discussing my M41 scores and his Camp Perry experience this year.

John is going to have our Arizona armorer work on my trigger and also Ransom rest it to see if it is the gun or me(maybe just my trigger).

Will probably have him do my RR .45 also.

So I am going to wait on the new barrel and take Johns advice.

Hi Clarence,
You should be able to easily test your model 41 off a sandbag for accuracy with a dot.

If you can shoot under 2" for a 10 shot group at 50 yards, I wouldn't bother with a new barrel. My short barrel is quite mediocre, but my long barrel shoots around 1 3/4 inches with CCI std, not too shabby.

I have a .41 setup with the Clark and one with the Buly.

These barrels improved my scores (I have more room for improvement than you).

I 'believe' both to be more accurate than the S&W but the real benefit to me was in the balance I get from them vs either the long or heavy S&W barrel. The gun just has a tremendously better fell with these barrels. I also like that there is no sight bridge which further reduces the alibi opportunities from my already reliable gun.

I give a slight edge to the Buly but the Clark is available so it certainly has the edge there.

Well, since my birthday is coming in a couple weeks, I bit the bullet(so to speak) and ordered the 6.5" STC from Clark Customs today.

Will be comparing the 2 barrels this weekend.

Rover and I will see each other on Sunday shake hands and have a good giggle about the whole thing.

I have met and shot with Rover a few times in the last couple years.
You just got to know him and his ways.
Actually he is very intelligent, well traveled and kind of funny at times.

So I guess you need to understand Clarence Perkins also.

Well, here is my M41 after some upgrades.

Clark Custom 6.5" barrel
Aimpoint Micro H-1
Herrett grips
Wolf match ammo

Shot my personal best of 869-41x this last Sunday at a 2700 match.

I would have put that money towards a Hammerli sp20, Pardini sp,Walter GSP expert,Morini,FWB 93 or a MG2. Plus you get another pistol to shoot.

Well, another personal best with this combination.

Shot last Sunday in a practice match with Steve Reiter scoring me, maybe that is why I did so well : )

Shot an 873-34x

I can honestly say that you can buy points with the M41 platform.
I believe I gained 20 points on average overall.

I also want to add, that with the stock setup of my high score of 868, that was only one time and generally shot between 840-860.

With the new setup it is easier to shoot, have not shot below an 855.
