Palm shelf tighteness

Post by Dev »

I have a medium grip LP 10. I am unsure about how tight the palm rest should be. I thought it should be loose enough to just about rest the plam of the hand. A friend though suggests that it should be tight almost to the point of discomfort. I had loosened it earlier and from the last weekend I have been practicing with it a little tight. My shooting has been improving and even last night I made just one error in forty shots. But I was wracked with an amazing dull pain in the wrist and the palm heel area. What do you gentlemen recommend?
It is amazing to find that all of you who told me to think positive and to only remember the tens are so right. I see a drastic rise in self confidence and improved shooting.

My thoughts are always if it caused pain then its probably not a good thing.

I think this will be one of those things where everyone does what works for them.

My palm shelf is firm, which prevents movement of my hand during shot production but by no means is it tight or causing pain.

I would say try many different setting and see what you think provides the best results.

Good luck

palm self tightness

Post by Dev »

Hi Lastman,

Is there a rule somewhere that the shelf has to be at ninety degrees to the palm? Cause if there isn't then I could try changing the angle a bit.

Thanks ,

Dev

If you are looking from the back of the gun, the shelf cannot be angled such that it cups your palm - 90 degrees or less. Free pistol this is not restricted.

If you are looking side-on to the gun, the palm shelf may angle up or down as you like

Get yourself some mole skin. Cut a small piece and stick it to the palm heel area. Being I dont shoot your gun things might be different. Then cut a piece that will attach to the top of your grip (usually rubs against the top of your thumb) put your hand in the grip and tigthen it snug. Your hand should fit like OJs glove , If you dont know what I mean by that the only thing I can say is keep it tight with no pain. Squeeze your hand in. There should be no pain and the mole skin will actually hold your hand into your grip alot better. It wont last forever , but one pack will last you for years. As you gently slide your hand in and out the sticky part of the mole skin will weaken. you can keep pushing down (reattaching it over and over again) for quite awhile.
