Omkar Singh's Silver in AP

Post by Oz »

Omkar was positioned for gold after qualifying round. But bad timing produced a 6.7 during finals. He was far enough ahead that this still gave him silver. From my amateur thinking, I had to do the math and realize that only an 8.0 on that shot would have held his position in 1st place.

I watched his interview and he seems like a really nice guy. His comment when questioned about that shot was just that of poor timing.

I enjoy seeing the human side of these elite shooters and find it interesting the reaction to the situations in which they find themselves. Certainly a lot of learning is possible.

Several years ago, Matt Emmons posted here and discussed an error he made by firing his final shot on the wrong target. I think he still medaled in the event but it it cost him dearly. I wish I could find his post. It is truly impressive how some of our athletes react to adversity. Gives new meaning to the word Champion.

I'd enjoy reading Matt's thoughts on that situation. Maybe I'll poke around in the archives.

It does show that these elite performers are doing so much more than just shooting 10's. There's another side to the performance that casual weekend shooters won't ever experience.
