My coach told me to bail out if it looked like it was going to be a nine.

So you are saying, "Those that became closer to God, did become closer to God..." Hmmm...

I would interject that if you look for those shots that look like nines, you will find them. Be very careful to only look for those that will be tens and bail when you don't find them, rather than looking for those that won't be tens and bailing.

It means a lot to me!

My one line saying won't mean much to you, although, it may strike a cord with some of the older guys out there.

I was at an outdoor prone match with my family. My four year old daughter was looking at the targets as I was writing the reference numbers on them. She asked me about the targets and I told her what score I got from hitting in different areas---eight for hits here---nine for hits here------and tens for hits here. Then she pointed to the X ring and asked me what I got when I shot there. Smarty me told her "I get amazed!" She didn't say anything else.

It was about 3 hours later when we broke for lunch. My daughter came running up to me and asked:

"Daddy, Daddy, did you get amazed!"

I still get a smile thinking of that.
I hope you get one, too.

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only three for proper trigger squeeze.

Hi All,

A couple I use a lot:

"Worlds simplest shooting lesson: Look at the front sight (or dot) and pull the trigger"

"The sight picture isn't a TV show, you have to drive your way to tens"

My favorites are all from the "Old School" heydays of shooting.

From Steve Reider, multi-time national bullseye champion:

"Shoot the first ten you see."

From Mel Makin, USA international team member:

"Great trigger will make up for bad hold, but not the opposite!"

From Gail Liberty, international team member:

"If your stance isn't comfortable, it sure isn't going to be repeatable!"

From Erich Buljung, national team coach and olympic silver medalist:

"Every match is one shot long; just one after another."

Every once in a while it is a Good Thing to go back over your shooting logbook/diary and reacquaint yourself with all of your "epiphanies."

Today I had perfect examples of this. If the trigger went off good the shot wasn't that bad even if I saw a fault in sights. But if the fault was more trigger after a poor hold, the shot was much worse.

Mel Makin is a great guy. I fired matches in the 70s with him, although Mel did not know of me then. (Maybe not even much now:) I might see Mel at league Sunday.
