Adding weight to an A/P

Can you use tape weights in competition or other temporary way to add weight?

I have an LP2 and thought I would just add a little bit of sticky wheel weights to to the cylinder.

We have an NRA sectional in January and I don't want any friction from the ref.

That is certainly not a problem under ISSF rules, either 2009 or 2005 versions, providing that you stay below a total of 1500g and the gun still fits in the box.

I would be a bit concerned about adding weights after the gun has been through equipment control. While it is not against the rules, providing you don't make the gun too heavy or big, it would certainly draw the attention of the match officials.

The stick on weights might be a little too thick, and prevent you from easily unscrewing the cylinder. You could also try wrapping a layer of solder on the tank (or barrel).

If you wanted something more permanent, you could put a layer of double sided masking tape on the barrel, wrap some solder, and then put some heat shrink tubing over it. I think it would look pretty cool.

I would be a little worried about corrosion under the tape however. Maybe a little oil film first?

Just thinking out loud (I have not tried this).

Just remembered: The golf club makers use a lot of sticky lead tape, should be perfect. you can find some here:

A very effective (non-invasive) approach to adding weight is to use the 8mm rare-earth magnets available from woodworking catalogs/stores. The come in sets of 10. Assuming you don't have an aluminum barrel, they will nestle right along the barrel and provide no interference to either sighting or cylinder exchange. An additional benefit is that you can add/subtract weight very easily as well as position it anywhere along the barrel length. Cost is nominal and if you decide you don't need as many or any, you can easily recover them for other uses. Hope this helps. Happy Holidays!
