Re: Remington 541x is it sufficient enough to compete in 4-H

Leaving the financial responsibility part aside, as High Left said most of this discussion is centered on raw accuracy and at the local/state level this is probably fine. Anschutz does not have any corner on the market of 22 rimfire accuracy. Neither does anyone. What makes the biggest equipment dif...

Re: FWB sight random malfuntions

Presumably though they rely on the springs holding the carrier against the two adjusters? Right- the springs keep the whole assembly pushed up against the adjustment screws. I think it is a very clever very low friction (just the ball bearings contribute a little friction I suppose) zero backlash d...

Re: FWB sight random malfuntions

No not a sliding plate design. They are pretty unique. They use a sort-of parallelogram with little leaf springs. Below is one in pieces. This one has a broken mount as i described. The spring assembly is shown as it screws into the main housing. Back where the eyepiece mounts you can see two little...

Re: FWB sight random malfuntions

The fwb rear sights are of a very good and reliable design. The best way to evaluate a rear sight is to have it tested with a dial indicator to determine if there is a problem with it. Also, look and make sure nothing is loose or cracked. One problem with the fwb sights is if the mouting screws are ...

Re: Sporters/precision

My thinking follows Kilowhisky's. I have mostly been involved with precision air in my lift and only tried the sporters as an attempt to find a low cost air rifle for entry level shooters. The quality difference between the sporters and say a fwb, anschutz, walther, etc precision air rifle is very s...

Re: Commercial .22 test rigs

I have my own setup that I put together that works ok with its own quirks. What I have found useful is to put a 24x target scope on the rifle during testing. I put some spots (aiming points) on the back of a target (blank paper) and with the rifle in position I adjust the scope so it points at one o...

Re: Beginner Air rifle questions

Jenrick: 1) I have had some CO2 rifles and they can be made to work but CO2 is just sort-of a pain compared to compressed air. You need to freeze the cylinders to fill them, weigh them, etc. Also it seemed to me that bringing a CO2 gun in from the cold car gets a little squirrely. This is due to the...

Re: Help picking smallbore for small shooter

roburger1 where are you? I have a rifle that I put together for my son when he was small. It is a silhouette barreled action in a 2012 wood stock. First the 2012 stock, the old one, has a very nice short length of pull. The silhouette barreled action has a shorter barrel than the '07 barrels. I put ...

Re: Kowa TSN-1

I have one of those and so does my son. I think it is one of the best scopes Kowa made. Mine has the 27x(I think) long eye relief eyepiece. If it had any other eyepiece I would not want it. $500 if in real good cond seems reasonable.

Re: Freeland Friction Washers

Is it the old fiber washers you have? Champion Shooters in Ohio has a new setup where they use a spring washer between some large flat washers. It works pretty well. They sell just the washers and it is not an expensive upgrade. I upgraded mine.

Can any of these have the same target be used from 10m to 50m? I am interested in one for a home range and it sure would be nice to take it outside in the summer to shoot 50m with.

I have had both ans 2002 and P70- make the disclaimer that I have a P70 for sale in the classifieds. I have actually had several 2002's and several P70's. Each has its advantages and mostly it comes down to preference. I would say quality of each is a toss up. If you want to put a scope on the gun t...

#2 is a much better design. The only plastic on it is the cover. The rest of it is cast alumimum. The design is such that it has leaf springs inside that keeps constant pressure on the adjustment screws and should have no backlash.

I went to the web site and looked around and also looked at one of the videos. The system does not show your hold or anything about what happens before or after the shot- only the shot is shown. That is one of the main things about the Scatt and Noptel systems.

I was at a clinic last weekend and Dave Johnson, former USA coach was there. He brought this up and highlighted it as guaranteed extra points for doing it. Several spoke at the clinic and as I remember it they sort-of separated it out into two steps. First, gun in place set your position, then look ...

Generally the pressure guage has colors on it and down near the low end is red or some color to indicate you should go no lower. From my experience just stay above that line. As far as the exact count goes It depends on the cylinder. FWB used to have two different cylinder lengths. You should get 15...

Justadude: take the cover off your FWB sight sometime and have a look. They do seem very cheaply made but a very clever design. They use a leaf spring frame setup. The adjustment screws just bear against this spring loaded frame. Very clever reliable design- no frills but works great with no backlash.

As Tim says the 5071 will work- I have installed a few on older rifles. Also, as Tim says there is a clearance cross slot that is cut into the newer actions that the old actions don't have. See picture 1 below of a new style action with slot. What I have done is to carefully grind a little clearance...

I had a MkII and it made a very nice prone rifle. I could not get mine to shoot well but I think it was more my particular rifle than anything. I made a few changes to mine which I think were improvements. I added a modern rail to the forearm. Also, I spoke with Karl Kenyon quite a few years back an...

I assume you mean for the purpose of using it in air guns and if that is correct the answer is as long as the pressure is good you are good to go. For Scuba use not so. I used to SCUBA dive and long ago i heard of a case where someone used a tank of air for breathing and suffocated. I think some bac...
