If you refer to Ron then it is a small world. In scope class he took 1st place and beat me by 8 points as I recall. He is a good shot and fun to talk to.
Virginia MacLemore did not mention posting the scores online. Instead she would email the bulletin to competitors.

2020 Firecracker 4800
The 2020 Lones Wigger Firecracker 4800 ended Sunday. Attendance was down at 31. I'm grateful to the Whittington Center for allowing the tournament to happen in spite of the NM governors fear mongering. Picture of the line with Master and Expert sling shooters. Marksmen, Sharpshooter and F-class were...

Re: Eyeglasses and shooting
I noticed a distinct difference with the new glasses on the front sight but the target is still somewhat distorted. Any advise for dealing with older eyes in the shooting sports would be greatly appreciated. Seems that typically the distance prescription for everyday glasses does not work well for ...

Re: Fouling Shots
Not much evidence to back it up but I've come to believe the bullet lubricant is a factor. Specifically the relationship of residual lubricant viscosity and internal barrel temperature. I shoot outdoors. Actual ambient temperature range of 38°F to 102°F. After a 20 shot string with the barrel warm a...

Re: CHROME LINED BARRELS
When the M14 rifle was used by the US Army and USMC rifle teams: (1) Standard issue barrels were chrome lined. (2) Special National Match barrels were made by the same suppliers and these were not chrome lined. These barrels were used for the accurized M14 rifles. Toward the end of the M14 the milit...

Re: Sling - Anschutz Professional or something else?
I've used the Hata sling for a few years now for prone and have been very pleased with it with one exception. That being the single hook used to set the arm loop size. For some reason the hook has a tendency to behave as a ratchet coming out of the hole and readjusting itself tighter.....very tight ...

Re: 5 rounds magazine in small bore rifle?
I agree with beye regarding the reason for magazine rifles. US smallbore competition was initially intended to be training for service rifle shooting. As a result it did include timed and/or rapid fire stages, so a magazine fed repeater was required. These events along with 200 yard smallbore were p...

Re: Stock Set-up Questions
Tim Right on both counts - more squared up and higher. This came about because I'd come to believe my head was too low. Seemed to me a shorter LOP (Length to Grip/LTG as Salazar calls it) would raise my head so I made that change first. Then moved the hand stop all the way forward and positioned the...

Re: Stock Set-up Questions
Tim After reading the set-up instructions from you and German Salazar I suited up, got on the floor and followed them. I ended up moving the butt plate in, reducing the LOP by 3/4 inch. I also brought the handstop back about 1-1/2 inch. I was surprised to find these changes put significantly more bu...

Re: Stock Set-up Questions
Jim, Don't mention it. To a degree the Length to Handstop determines the height of the position. Shorter often equals higher. Some European shooters manage a very steep left arm with their hand well out under the fore-end, but the butt is usually kept short. Your Dunlop/Freeland type stocks were bu...

Re: Stock Set-up Questions
Tim Many thanks for the reply. You are a wealth of information. All of my prior experience was with service rifle. You had to make yourself fit the rifle. I read Salazar's article a few years ago and recall his length to handstop = 2 X LOP. In fact his recommendation is where I started and it is sti...

Stock Set-up Questions
I shoot prone and use a vintage stock. It is adjustable only in these areas: (1) length of pull (LOP) - butt plate adjusts fore & aft, (2) length to hand stop (LTH) via full length accessory rail, and (3) butt plate adjusts vertically. I need guidance on the proper relationship of butt stock pre...

Re: Nerves, pulse etc in prone
I've struggled with competition "nerves" and with allowing extraneous thoughts enter my mind while shooting. Seems a symptom of not reaching the point where all thought is "non-verbal" as one of the authors put it. To give the conscious part of my brain something to do, I play a ...

Re: Question about Irritation Eyes during competition
For what it's worth, here is my thought.... measure the distance from your rear sight to the front sight. when you have your eye exam, ask the doctor what the prescription is for that distance. Now, when you're shooting, look at the front sight! Why directly on the foresight, and not, as is usual f...

Re: Value Anschutz 1813
Unertl scopes came in a couple of different models. The common one had a 1.25" diameter objective (I believe). There is a larger one as well.
In good condition the 1.25" typically bring $700 to $800. There are usually several for sale on ebay.
I use a 20X Unertl and like it very much.
