I can only imagine what reaction we would get at our club competitions if we tried to disqualify a shooter when his pistol didn't lift a "piece of coat hanger and a full tin of pellets" home-made weight. Most competition shooters have somewhat higher standards. I can't speak for what kind...

Rather than use a soda bottle, I used a plastic jar and made a hanger with a inexpensive steel rod bent to shape and ground a knife edge on the short end. I find the pellets don't slosh around making trigger weighing easier.

For a non-toxic alternative, I'd suggest a 500ml plastic bottle and a 1 liter plastic bottle filled with water along with a section of stiff wire (e.g. a clothes hanger) to make the connection between the trigger and the bottle (bent for the trigger, wrapped around bottle's neck). Using a scale, fil...

Rink grips are made for the Izzy. I've had mine for almost a year, and I really like them. They really transform the IZH, and now I like my setup enough that I've stopped looking for another air pistol - so in that sense they're actually saving me money. Or maybe that's just http://en.wikipedia.org/...

Real skateboard shoes have a stiff flat sole to better "connect" the rider with the board. They help shooters in the same fashion. Make sure that they aren't too stiff. Even if you don't enter competitions where you are likely to be tested with the proper rule 6.5.3 shoe sole flexibility ...

I'm sure some jury will find something in the rules bellow to disqualify such warm comforts... :) By the way, I've seen...

Re: Boots in pistol shooting

Further more, why the difference in equipment (clothes) in pistol and rifle shooting? Why is it ok and regulated for rifle shooters to use boots and not ok for pistol? Because we pistol shooters don't want to have to drag around a suitcase full of stupid special clothing in order to be competitive....

I don't feel 100% comfortable until I know what the heck I am holding in my hand. That's just me. Maybe you should look at the Browning Buckmark. It's no Margolin (or any fancy target pistol for that matter), but it's simple, reliable, a proven design, easy to take down, and (in my opinion) pretty ...

I think (and that's just it... no scientific basis) that the shooter who has greater shoulder, chest, and neck flexibility has an advantage. The flexible shooter can try any number of different positions and choose the one which suits him/her best. However, the shooter with limited range of motion w...

I had no idea that you can play around with the springs. I would have not dismissed the LP400 had I known that I could have improved the trigger.... I cannot believe that at Walther they do not realize how bad it is! So... you're passing a strong negative judgment on a world-class pistol without ha...

Updating this thread - I posted the results of this pistol/ammo test elsewhere but it seems relevant here as well, since this is the free pistol described above. This is an octagon barrel Hammerli Model 100 from 1952 or before. It still shoots really well. I recently did some 10-shot group tests wit...

The early model 100 through the 103 are actually fairly uncommon as only a few thousand total were built. The serial number range started with 1001. The later 104 through to the 107 are much more common. Thanks for that information, Jim (6string). I have an octagon barrel Hammerli Model 100 with an...

Thanks for the input, SamEEE. But perhaps an egg may not be the correct visualisation here - because if you hold an egg in your hand you can squeeze it as hard as you possibly can and it won't break, as long as you're not wearing a ring and you're gripping more or less evenly. Try it, or see http://...

You know, it might not be that big of a deal. When I was a kid, I had a .22 caliber pellet rifle (I think it was a Diana Model 25), but we lived overseas in a country where I couldn't get any .22 caliber pellets. However, I could get .177 pellets. So I did what any self-respecting 12-year-old would ...

Not to Anniston, but would go to one anywhere in California, or maybe even elsewhere in the West.

There's a silhouette range that has the 500 meter rams for high power rifle up on the side of a hill probably about 100 feet higher than the horizon line and the other targets (you can see it in the picture). The turkeys are also on the hill (at 375m), but not at so much of an angle. Those are diffi...

To my cries that the rules say "must be .22LR" so no personal judgement required, the answer was that in the English language, "must be" is more of a suggestion, while "has to be" is the definite wording to disallow something...... Any comments? "Must be" nee...

As for .22 long rifle, does the ISSF define the same as SAAMI? If so, SAAMI specs do not specify projectile weight, only length. So, to take the idea further (as a point of discussion, not trying to break the rules or anything like that) a .22lr round loaded with a lighter projetile would be OK (fo...

Well the gentleman in question hides his shorts in LR boxes, and after the more vocal comments by some competitors, puts each short case in his pocket and scatters a few LR cases for good measure so its not quite "allowed" up to this point... but we will see... That's just funny. Anyway, ...
