Re: Air Arm Biathlon rifles and accessories
I just looked at the rifle online and it looks like a solid product. Air Arms makes reliable stuff, just not World Cup level stuff. For me the question is: why do you want one? I don't know of any air rifle races. If you are interested in biathlon and want the rifle for home practice, any single sho...

Re: Break Dancing
It really seems that the IOC wants its hands in everything. I think we should cancel the Olympics and just compete under the sports governing bodies.

Re: Looking for a high quality rotating angled eyepiece spotter
Hey Cranky,
Which model of the Athlon scopes did you get? I have been eyeing their Ares 15-45x60 and the 7.5-22x50. At a certain price point you get into different eyepieces with any of the nicer scopes, how much value do you find in that?

Re: Looking for a high quality rotating angled eyepiece spotter
Hey Cranky, What do you think of the Kowa 501? I have been looking at spotting scopes and decided that I don't need an objective lens larger than 60mm. There are several compact scopes like the MInox or the 501 that make me wonder if I would get the image I want at 50 meters with a compact scope. wh...

Re: ammo testing
Hey Guys, Thanks for the responses. Pat, you make a good point, what I wrote is somewhat contradictory. I can't be competitive in the ski race, but if I clean all my targets, I'm happy. So I really am just playing at it. All the same, I'm happier if I play well. If the rifle is somewhat worn, I can ...

Re: ammo testing
I guess I'm not expressing myself well enough. I have read plenty of articles and posts about the proper and detailed methods of ammunition testing. That's not what I'm asking about. The rifle I have is an older 1827 that was part of a club program and purchased from one of our junior World Cup skie...

Re: ammo testing
I guess what I'm trying to figure is when the shot I call as a 10 scopes out as a 6, is it me or the ammunition. I have a Savage mkii that at times seems to be more accurate than the Anschutz. It's possible, the Anschutz is a older club rifle that has seen it's use over the years. Groups with the An...

ammo testing
I would like to get a better idea of the accuracy of my biathlon rifle. I have never mounted it in a rest and checked how it groups. In the past I have run various brands of ammunition through it and been rather disappointed with the results, but that may be because I did it back to back without all...

Re: spotting scope question
I think you guys have answered my next question about objective lens size. Is there any benefit to a larger objective if the magnification is the same? I know that the image should be brighter and the field of view larger but is a larger field of view an advantage or a distraction? If the money is t...

spotting scope question
I have a 50mm 20x60 spotting scope. At 50m I can't really differentiate 22 rounds on the target as well as I would like. I've been thinking about getting another scope with a larger objective lens, but if the magnification is the same would I get a sharper image? I know the field of view will be big...

Re: what mods do the shooters do to the Crosman Challenger rifle to make it better?
Hey Whitefox, I use a Challenger in my basement to practice for biathlon. I have heavily modified the rifle. I started by replacing the cheekpiece, then I worked on the trigger a couple of different ways. I replaced the buttplate with an Anschutz carrier and a biathlon buttplate. I built out the gri...

Re: Daisy 599 Partial/Initial Review
Hey Jim, You have repeatedly mentioned the 2009's needing to be refilled in the middle of matches, that has not been my experience at all. I regularly get more than 100 shot with my 2009 without any pellet drop. I'm not shooting matches, but I use it regularly for biathlon training. I shoot in my ba...

I'll be in Raleigh for the next week and I'm wondering if there is any opportunities to see some small bore or air rifle while I'm here.

Re: Anschutz Fortner 1827 dry fire donut
I didn't think the rifle would fire with the donut in, nice to know it can rather than find out the hard way. That is the problem with the donut, it takes time to put in and take out. For me it always seems that which ever state the rifle is in, I want it to be in the other. Algus Shalna, one of the...

Re: New Daisy 599 sportster rifle
I think the stock looks better than the Challenger. One of my main complaints about the Challenger is the grip on the rifle makes it hard to reach the trigger if you have small hands. The stock on the Daisy seems to have more of a pistol grip. The butt plate and cheek piece attachments seem better o...

Re: New unofficial world record in AP
In Biathlon they have just that, but it is a time advantage that they carry from previous races. In the course of a Biathlon weekend the time advantages from previous races is applied to the next race. It is the same for stage races in cycling. There is no reason it couldn't be done in shooting.

sight riser question
It seems to me that the vertical distance from the sight aperture to the top for the cheek piece is a fixed constant relative to each shooter and position. Therefore if the sights are elevated with riser blocks, the cheek piece moves up the same distance (I could be wrong of course). For Offhand I w...

Re: rifle accuracy
Hey guys, Thanks for the replies. I think the rifle was originally purchased by the Maine Winter Sports Center in the late '90s and used as a club rifle until sometime around 2006. I suspect that the rifle was cleaned once or twice a year along with all the other club rifles. I purchased the rifle f...
