Re: Recoil buffers and cycling
inthebeech, I agree with GunRunner. Do not need a recoil buffer in a Bullseye Gun, as long as the proper spring and loads are being used. Wasn't having any issues at all with my Clark Custom 1911 Wadgun in .45ACP caliber. But, several years ago, I installed a recoil buffer in that pistol out of curi...

Re: S&W Model 41
Here's what CCI once told me about the difference between CCI #0032 and CCI #0035. Both are considered to be standard velocity cartridges, however: #0032 Only made by CCI-Idaho 1070 fps mv (20" barrel) Comes packaged in 100 ct. plastic box #0035 If lot # starts with a letter: CCI-Idaho product ...

Re: 1911 Slide Mount Red Dot
"I was dead wrong. I had to drop my mainspring weight by six pounds to even get the gun to function with the light loads I was using at the short line." Isabel1130, I think you meant to say that the RECOIL SPRING weight had to be dropped by six pounds for proper gun function. The MAINSPRIN...

Re: New York Compliant options for upgrade
inthebeech, Bought a new Model 41 in 1998. With a 5 1/2" factory barrel, one piece Weaver rail and an UltraDot mounted on it, the whole set-up was too heavy and too tiring for Bullseye. Trigger out of the box was only fair on mine. Sent it off to Clark Custom Guns. They installed their 5 1/2&qu...

matchguy,
Looking for another source for a slide mount? Try viewing this website, marvelcustomguns.com
Once there, click on "Scope Bases", found in the upper left corner of the page. Thought they also offered them to fit the
unique profile of a Colt Gold Cup slide.

Re: 1911 Target Use
ser2711, One more thing I forgot to suggest in my previous posting. Hope these ideas are of some help. UltraDot sights also come with an "extension tube". They are available for both the 1" and 30mm sights. These tubes are thin-walled, threaded on both ends and measure about 1 1/4&quo...

Re: 1911 Target Use
ser2711, "..in bright sun I cannot see the red dot...". Didn't your UltraDot come with a polarizing filter? The front end of your sight is threaded. This may not be apparent at first. There usually is a narrow "trim ring" attached when the sights are assembled. Take that ring off...

Re: Does anybody know which pistol this grip will fit?
I agree with Sa-tevo. Looks like they will fit a Smith & Wesson Model 41. The 41's use two long "cross-screws" to pull the right and left panels towards one another, thus securing each one to the frame. Each screw is about 1 1/2" long. Both of the holes in the left panel are just ...

Re: Sight picture
XLshtur, Not trying to be sarcastic here, but just use whichever one provides a good sight picture. Do try both methods. Then use whichever one allows you to focus the best on the front sight. If both work equally well, use the one which gives you the better scores. Back when shooting with iron sigh...

Re: High Standard Victor Gunsmith
podunckshooter, A few years ago, I sent my Victor to David Sams. Was completely satisfied with the quality of his work. He was referred to me by several trusted Bullseye shooters in my league who also had guns built by him. While catering to the Bullseye crowd, he does other fine gunsmithing work as...

To Xman and CR10X, Have no answer for you regarding eye dominance. However, noticed in each of your postings that the use of a "blinder" was mentioned. By "blinder", I'm assuming reference is being made to an opaque, round disk that completely covers one lens of your shooting gla...

Re: Controlling a shaky hold/pistol choice questions
trboat,
Wouldn't it be quicker and easier to just narrow the width of the front sight instead of modifying the rear sight's notch?
Even removing a total of only 0.010" from it will allow quite a bit more daylight to be present when aiming.

trboat, Am definitely not a pistol coach by any means. Just another Bullseye shooter. Do consider the following: 1.) How's your caffeine intake? Drink a lot of coffee, tea, Coke, or Pepsi during the course of the day? I enjoy those beverages myself, but only consume their caffeine-free counterparts....

novagoldn, Bought a new High Standard Victor in 1977. Still have it and the original factory brochure that accompanied it. Re: Different Rings for an UltraDot?
Folks, Thanks for the replies. Forgot to mention that I am using a 1" diameter UltraDot Sight. For those of you who are using Weaver rings: Are you using "Weaver-style Rings" that are offered by various firms? Or are they rings actually made and sold by the Weaver company? The reason ...

Different Rings for an UltraDot?
Whenever my pistol get's a full blown cleaning, the UltraDot is completely removed from the rings and is set aside. Am using the aluminum, vertically-split rings that UltraDot supplies with their sights. Nothing wrong with them being made of aluminum, but mounting the sight back into the rings can b...

izzyjim, I see that you've ordered a Nelson conversion for Bullseye Competition; enjoy shooting it. As to the High Standard pistols, am certainly not an "expert" by any means, other than owning one since 1977. Was told by several that these guns came tuned from the factory exclusively for ...

Re: timed and rapid cadence
Once talked to a Master Class shooter in our weekly Bullseye League about this very topic. His view? Shoot your Timed in the same cadence as your Rapid Fire. He felt doing this simplified the whole match; you only shoot Slow Fire once and Rapid Fire twice. For him, shooting Timed as if it was Rapid,...

Andy, Am not a pistolsmith by any means. From your posting it sounds like you're intimately more familiar with the Ruger design than I am! Does your trigger have an overtravel stop setscrew in it? Had issues once with a Mark II which suddenly would not fire. Turns out this setscrew had moved out of ...

W231 185 gn short line loads
Ttgoods,
I have used 4.7 grains of W231 with a 185 grain LSWC (hard cast) bullet.
This load worked in a Custom Colt Government Model 1911 Wadcutter Gun
that had a BoMar Full Length Sight Rib on it with a 14 pound recoil spring.
