Re: Oiling Top Round in Semi-Auto Magazines?
Oiling the top round (a drop of oil on the cartridge case) certainly improves reliability of my Model 41, and many other guns on the line having malfunctions that I have seen. If you can retrieve the spent cartridge case after firing it, you can usually see it is coated in black gunk that it has rem...

Re: 25m pistol: coloured front sight
Yeah, why didn't they just say sights have to be non-reflecting black and have done with it? I've been telling people that coloured sights aren't allowed, but I've had somebody point out that the rules don't actually say that. Has anybody seen a coloured front sight used in a major competition? Or h...

25m pistol: coloured front sight
So Rule 8.4.1.3 says that "Sights using fiber optic, light enhancing or reflecting color surfaces are prohibited." Does that mean that coloured sights are allowed if they are matte and not reflecting?

Re: Trigger feeling too heavy
Tensing the hand on the grip has the side-effect of making the trigger seem really heavy. For me, the tensing of my hand is a reaction to emotions and often comes from trying too hard, and forcing the shot. Mentally regroup, relax and calm the mind, and relax and then re-grip the gun without trying ...

Re: A. Kudelin, the last 0.2 seconds, and the 'follow throug
Nowhere in the analysis is the mental/emotional aspect of shooting mentioned, and that is so important in my experience that I find it hard to agree with it completely. Things go sideways in the last fraction of a second as the shot breaks, no question IMO. Very often that is due to some form of ant...

Re: what .22 pistol would you choose?
I like my MG-2, but I personally would not use the RF version for Standard Pistol. Too heavy! Less recoil, sure, but fatiguing.

Re: Where can I get a bolt assembly for a Hammerli SP 20?
I started with .22 and .32 conversions for my SP-20. The .22 slide broke at the "ear" on the slide years ago. I still shoot the gun, but as .32 only. My dealer had a ziplock bag with at least 5 slides all broken there.

Re: Left Right Spread Issue
I'm not sure if the Izzy has an adjustable rear sight gap, but I'll just mention that if it does, and the gap is set too wide, left and right variations can become an issue. At a certain point it becomes difficult to judge the centre alignment of the front sight and shots will begin to spread latera...

Re: Air pistol backstop: ballistic nylon, or kevlar, or ?
From OP: To add some detail, the shooters have to shoot in relays since the single target return system is ruined. I have created a frame that attaches to the existing posts at the target end that can hold 2 targets on each side of the post at the correct height. There is a full ballistic curtain be...

Air pistol backstop: ballistic nylon, or kevlar, or ?
I tried using a heavy landscaping fabric (4 layers) but the pellets managed to cut through it after only a few shots, so I'm thinking either ballistic nylon or kevlar fabric would work as a backstop behind target holders I had to create because the returning target systems got ruined at the range. I...

Advice or rules on size of air pistol target backing
I'm putting on a local match which includes ISSF Air Pistol. Unfortunately, the single target returning system that we used to use was left out in the weather (not me!) and has become ruined. So I'm macgyvering a replacement to hold multiple targets and have them shoot in relays. Not ideal, sure, bu...

Re: New updates for the MATCHGUNS MG2 RIO 2016
My poor MG-2 is such a mutt. The upper has been back to Italy for repair and replacements twice since I bought it, and when I bought it I'm told it already had parts mixed from the original and second generation. At least. Having said that, it works really well and I am extremely fond of it! I would...

Re: Beavertail grip safety on 1911
The plus sides have been mentioned. I get hammer bite from my gun without the beavertail, so if that's an issue for you, too, they are a blessing. There can be a negative side, however. When you grip really high on the gun (as you should) there is a chance that the top of the beavertail will get pus...

Thanks, gentlemen. That makes sense to me. In future I will use a "only first score counts" rule.

OK to shoot an event more than once in a match?
I help to set up and put on a local match over a weekend. To accommodate competitors' travel time and other needs, some events are run at different times on each day (standard pistol, sport pistol, centre fire). Normally a competitor will pick one instance of an event, but I have had a competitor pa...

Re: Smith&Wesson 52 unforgiving...
I have an opinion on "unforgiving" guns based on my personal experience. I believe that guns that are extremely light (my Margolin .22 comes to mind) or have extremely heavy muzzles (my Model 41 comes to mind) can be unforgiving in that if you make some kind of anticipatory movement as the...

Re: Typical reasons for high shots?
Good advice. Calling your shots is only possible if your eye is open and focused on the front sight and (initially at least) the break comes as a mild surprise. In my experience, high shots for me usually happen for one of two reasons: I am "mid-ranging" when the shot goes off: my eye is f...

Re: Controlling a shaky hold/pistol choice questions
I do find that I have a hard time seeing the front sight in an indoor range where the lighting conditions are not as bright as outdoors and as my eyes age. My guns do have adjustable rear sight gaps, and my Hammerli SP-20 has an adjustable front sight width as well (really clever rotating triangle p...

Re: Controlling a shaky hold/pistol choice questions
At home I can hold relatively well with good sight alignment but on the range some sort of forcing to bulls is making my hold go to jitters. I think this statement is extremely important in determining the most likely issue, which is anticipation. You are anticipating the shot and tensing up and th...

Re: Tie-breaking in Standard Pistol or CF/Sport on paper tar
Perfect - thank you! I'll have to modify the scorecards. My problem was in part that I was expecting to see "X" where I should have been looking for "inner ten." Doh.
