I would try to find a used Ruger MkII, not the III. First, the factory trigger is better. Second there have been failures with the MkIII where the loaded chamber indicator actually breaks out. Both accept Volquartsen or Clark parts for upgrades,

For grips I went with Altamont walnut target grips, about $65 direct. Fit well, comfy, fills the hand. They're not the real big style like the Volquartsen olympic style.

The Mosquito is the only Sig 22, and not more than a plinker. Sig did offer the Trailside, which was a Hammerli with non adjustable trigger and very solid. It is helpful. I suppose part of it is being the only one on the line and wondering if I'm missing something. At the same time that old gun gets a lot of looks.

Is anyone using a wheel gun for 22? I'm a big fan of the S&W models 17 and 18, but they don't seem to get much love.

I've coached kids in a variety of sports and the best thing parents can do is just be supportive and enthusiastic. Find an experienced coach and let them do their thing. You can ask the coach to assist.

CCI std or Wolf are my cheaper go to ammo for accuracy. If I'm just trying to get some rounds downrange then Federal bulk is alright as well, but not nearly as consistent. I found Aquila to be dirty.

One way to approach it would be to go with just a solid firearm and upgrade as the opportunity presents. There are plenty of reasonable price, good shooting 1911s out there. Or you can go with something entirely different like the Sig P220 match. I'm not sure what sort of performance for price you c...
