I have shot several of 22s mentioned here in bullseye. I bought one of the first batch of Marvel/Nighthawk conversions. The firing pin broke and Nighthawk had me sent if back and they kept it. I received one from the next batch. Both guns were undependable and not as accurate as advertised. I went w...

frame vs slide mount
In a discussion about the pros and cons of frame vs slide mounts, one of the points raised was that a frame mount brings an additional factor to the degree of accuracy provided by the setup. That factor is slide to frame fit. As the slide to frame fit degenerates over time the point was that accurac...

Thanks for the two responses. Last night I loaded some 185 gr LSWCs with 3.9 and 4.0 gr of WST. I usually use 3.8 gr of Bullseye. The group size of both was similar. There was a recoil difference between the two so I will go with the lower charge. I've had this WST sitting around for a year so now I...

Can I use WST to load 45 acp?
Hello I realized too late that the current panic was going to affect pistol reloading and I am out of bullseye. I do have plenty of WST but my Speer load manual does not list it for 45. If anyone has a load for bullseye using WST, please let me know. I currently use hard cast lead bullets and load 4...

I agree with the previous post. I have two of Bushnell TRS red dots, both mounted on 22s. One is on a buckmark. Both TRS have performed very well. I just purchased an Ultra dot to mount on a 1911 but haven't received it yet. Due to the pounding a dot would receive on a 1911, I went with one a little...

Asheville BE
Is Asheville having matches this year? I haven't seen them posted in Shooting Sports and haven't been able to find a website for the club. I would like a contact to find out. I went to one of their matches last year and it was very good. Would like to go back this year.

New Marvel 22 conversion
I have purchased the new Marvel 22 conversion unit. I got mine through Nighthawk because I wanted to deal with a company that I knew I could get service from. Based on what I see on Nighthawk's site, they are tied in with Bob Marvel now. Not only do they sell his 22 conversion but they also sell 191...

which mag
From my experienc most mags will work with 200 grain bullets. The problem comes with the 185s. If one mag was clearly superior to the other you wouldn't see so many brands on the market. For instance with red dots there is clearly a preference on line for the ultra dot sights. Not so with mags. When...

Starline +p
I started out with range brass for pratice and as I've accumulated more I've standardized on Federal, Winchester and Starline. For matches I use brass that was purchased new. It is reused a few times and then moved to the pratice rounds. I purchased some starline +P last time because it was in stock...

Thanks for the input. It turns out that I'm not going to use the Gold Cup. I contacted a smith to have the gun accurized, trigger set, and the hammer and grip safety changed out. Smith said stainless wasn't the best to accurize as the stainless would not hold the rails in true as long as carbon stee...

Is a stainless steel 1911 legal for CMP?
I have a stainless steel colt gold cup I want to use for distinguished pistol matches. Is this type finish allowed? I am planning to replace the hammer and safety with a spur hammer and gov't type grip safety.

Thanks, I've place my order
Orpanaut Thanks for the list of things to consider. I was aware of some but not all. I talked with several gunsmiths including some mentioned in this post. I went with http://kcskustomcreations.com/index.htm He was already on my list from pouring over other posts on this subject. Another bullseye gu...

anyone using Ed Brown pistols for bullseye?
I am looking for a 1911 for Bullseye competition. I have seen good remarks about Ed Brown guns and I liked their website so I gave them a call. I talked with a ‘tech rep’. I asked if they had any 1911s suitable for bullseye competition and he said “what is bullseye”. Then I said I was looking for a ...

Doc, I am curious about the Volquartsen LLV barrel as I have a 22/45 and am thinking about a barrel upgrade. The LLV accuracy sounds good. Did you happen to test the Ruger barrel before you installed the LLV? Also how does the action on the LLV compare. I am having some FTE and FTF issues currently ...
