While it's certainly possible to cross sight at a very high level—as I recall, Torsten Ullman was one of them—and while I wouldn't agree with RobStubbs that "very few" do it, I have experienced the problems he mentions first-hand. My main reason for cross sighting was not eye dominance, bu...

If the shots are hitting left, would you not want to move the rearsight to the right? Unless pistol sights work very differently to rifle sights, you move the rearsight in the direction you want the shots to go, not in the direction they are going. I don't think the OP means he is moving the rear s...

By the way (and just to toot my own dead horse beating skill horn), is this new SP final the first time in the modern era that the ISSF rifle/pistol rules require a shooter to move to a new firing point without getting extra sighting shots? Are there any concerns with this, such as uneven lighting o...

I think instead of 3+3 then everyone eliminated by 2 shots. we should go back to the 10 shots finals. 10 shots starting from zero? I think you'll find it very hard to gather participant support for that. However, to make it interesting, we will only have 4 finalists. That means everyone except the ...

At least he's not new to the game. He participated in the 1999 Crosman Championships in Toronto, scoring around 540 in AP. He has obviously improved his shooting since then! But yes, it's very hard to find more recent information about him online: I can't even seem to find the results from that Colt...

I'm not all that fond of hit-and-miss scoring, for three reasons: * It doesn't scale naturally between different levels of shooting. The 9.7 and 10.3 hit zones are (obviously) meant for world-class shooters; using them for lesser competitions seems like a bit of a lottery, and can even get ridiculou...

From a spectator viewpoint, the new final format has really been a great improvement. But that's when you're in the finals hall yourself, able to see all the shooters, all the targets, and all the scores simultaneously at all times. Replicating that on a TV production is difficult. Too much informat...

Yes, it's easy to achieve in a spreadsheet, but the design of static (PDF/printed) result lists must still be solved in some way. In most lists I've seen so far, the individual shots (or 3-/2-shot groups) are listed, and then just the total score, which is pretty much pointless as, apart from the g...

Hi guys, what I really don't understand is why the safety flag must extend through all the length of the barrel only in air pistol and air rifle and with .22 rifle or pistol it only must have 10 or 15 cm and be inserted in the chamber... For cartridge guns, it's sufficient to show that there's no c...

Certainly good advice from both, but just to simply give you the numbers: the black of the FP target will be 40 mm at 10 metres, compared to the black of the AP target which is 59.5 mm. Almost exactly two-thirds. As for the scoring rings, calibre adjustment comes into play: the "10" ring f...

To expand slightly on Spencer's, Chris's and Rob's answers, the reason that there is no all-round pistol (without some specification) is not just that no single model is good enough, it's that different shooting sports have different rules and no single model is legal in all of them. To shoot all IS...

If the bill is, as you say, a clone of this , then there is already a (non-federal) exemption for ISSF-style pistols. The California text specifically exempted all relevant Benelli, Hämmerli, Pardini and Walther models, and made provisions for amending newer models as they came, based on recommendat...

There is certainly an arguement to be made that 6.2.2.2 also covers EC but, if it does, then trigger testing would be impossible. I can't see any EC officer complaining if you present a gun with a safety flag inserted. The reasonable way to view 6.2.2.2 is that it applies to the shooter at all time...

In the finale there is also a difference. Riffel shooters have additional sighters after the presentation of the shooters. Pistol shooters does not they start the final right after the presentation. I wonder why there is this difference? I think no extra sighters were intended from the beginning, i...

Good work! But are you sure it says 9.7 somewhere for women's 25m pistol? If so, it's inconsistent with 6.17.5 which says 10.3.

I wouldn't expect it to be common but I would have thought the best guys would do it every now and then Damir Mikec ended on a 100 in the eliminations of the Munich WC this summer. Unless I've missed something, that's the only time during the 2009–2012 cycle that it's happened on that level. As for...

I think it was 2 years ago he won the sweedish nationals with and air pistol score into the 580s. after his shoot he was asked if he was going to make a return to competitive shooting and he said, no because he didnt want to start training again That was in 2008, his pre-final lead was ...

I'm surprised Cine was even awake and even more curious as to how the anti-doping people reacted to the elevated levels of eucalyptus in his system, mind you for Cine it would be far from a performance enhancement. Considering this, I think it's rather astonishing that he even managed to win the na...

It might be pointed out that even in Reinhamre's Sweden (which happens to be my Sweden too), the ISSF shooters are a rather small minority of the pistol shooters. Scandinavian-style field target shooting has always been much more popular, and lately both IPSC and PPC have attracted quite a number of...
