Re: paper to electronic score improvement (25yd prone)

Julian, Interestingly my county association has currently banned electronic targets pending an investigation into compliance*. There was a general feeling at the AGM that ESTs increase scores, though no-one had hard data to back this up. My suspicion is that a single aiming mark is an advantage, but...

Re: Karl KENYON trigger.

Nicholas,

Karl Kenyon did make a spring loaded trigger shoe to give the feel of a two-stage release. I have a 1913 barrel/action built by Karl in 1993/94, which I'm told came with this pseudo-two stage. Sadly the original owner wanted a true two stage, and replaced it with a 5018.

Re: Karl KENYON trigger.

Nicholas,

I'm afraid I never shot with one, and only briefly used the other. I'd wanted one to fit an Anschutz 1813, but was sold two that were actually for 14/1613 bolts.

Eventually I found a Kelly, which I like very much.

Re: Karl KENYON trigger.

Nicholas

Your trigger looks very much like Kenyon triggers I had that were made for Anschutz 54s. It's not a very early trigger, as those had an external adjustment cam, but I can't say if it would fit a 14/16xx or an 18/29/20xx bolt.

The trigger blade, or shoe, does not look original.

Re: New to Irises on Front Sights, need help.

So the front iris adjusts for lighting conditions? Lower light, bigger aperture; more light, smaller aperture? Just wanting to make sure I’m on the right track. TIA Yes. In brighter light the pale background appears brighter, making the black target appear smaller so the aperture can be slightly sm...

Re: New to Irises on Front Sights, need help.

The iris also allows you to get exactly the size you want. For example you find a 3.9mm aperture is a little tight in prone, but a 4.0mm looks a little big, with an iris you aren't limited to 0.1mm steps, so say hello to 3.95mm.

A 3P shooter could also adjust the iris between positions.

Re: Anschutz 1907/1912 trigger adjustment

Paul, Before making any further adjustments I'd check the trigger housing is screwed firmly onto the receiver; it can work loose, and then the firing pin can override the catch. You'll need to remove the stock first. This is not a bad idea anyway as you can see the trigger internals. Once you're sur...

Re: Front Iris

Do you have an extension tube? If yes, I'd think the 3.8-5.8mm would be best (and maybe in 22mm too). For a bare barrel the 2.8-4.8mm seems a good balance.

Re: difference between 10 click and 20 click Anschutz sights

Smallbore shooters use 20-click too. As far as I'm aware Anschutz use the same width/angle dovetail on air and smallbore. Most smallbores, bar the 20xx and 54.30, have a round topped dovetail if that matters. There's more variation in foresight fitting, but if your 2002 has the same dovetail at the ...

Re: Shooting Coat Materials

Vincent, For a first time buyer I'd suggest canvas. Leather looks very smart, and moulds to your body more quickly than canvas, but you pay a premium. You'll pay less for a canvas jacket of similar design. Canvas is also stiffer; leather jackets are all lined with canvas to prevent stretching. Good ...

The insert for the rod, essentially a mini-guide that plugs into the guide, should keep the rod straighter and better centred.

Do you have a link to Jeffs guide rods as Ive never heard of them.
No, I'm afraid not. I think Jeff retired a few years ago. I remember emailing about an insert for a new rod without reply; that would have been about 2014.

Re: Walther KK500 rod guide

Very interested. also, how does the OEM rod guide cause, 'aluminum oxide dragging on the inside of your receiver' I think Jerry was referring to his rod guide. Jeff Madison's rod guides are aluminium, so I'd infer that Jerry's is also. I've not noticed any wear on the receiver in more than ten year...

Jay, I think the 579 is just cylindrical correction. You'd also need part 50300-0 to get the non-magnifying focal length correction too. Unless your eyesight changes frequently a single lens combining distance and astigmatism in a monocle holder would be cheaper, at least over here, than the 579 + 5...

Re: ISSF Rule 7.4.1.5 - Barrels

The highlighted section "Any construction or device inside the barrel or tube" makes me think if two things: first removeable choke tubes, and second silencer baffles. I can't think why anyone would put choke tubes in a smallbore/10m AR, but baffles inside an extension tube would seem to r...

Re: centra sling

Julian,

Have you thought of fixing the sling to the keeper? You'd need to be sure the sling is in the correct position first, too far to the outside and it will drag on the jacket, but for the price of a nut and bolt (or just a few rubber bands for starters) it's worth a shot.

Re: centra sling

Hi Julian, The MEC-Centra is a very popular sling. I had one for a year, but sold it a few months back because I never got it to work well enough. The sling has lots of features that I really liked: self centring, micro-adjustment, and a single thickness strap over my wrist. When the sling came onto...

Re: Anschutz 1903

As I'm sure is known, the 1907 was developed by Anschutz in I believe the 1970's to be used in the "Standard Rifle' discipline of ISU competition. Just an aside, but the 1907 was emphatically not developed in the 1970s. 1907 was not Anschutz's code for any Standard Rifle, but denotes a particu...
