Re: Budget precision rifles

In terms of the sling and glove: Any European branded sling will be ISSF compliant. Really the only rule is a maximum width of 40mm. Some US slings are wider, either everywhere or at the arm cuff so check it's ISSF width. Other than that until you get to expensive micro-adjustable slings (MEC-Centra...

Re: Butt hook

There was a WTB add in the sales forum looking for the metal bracket from a cheekpiece. You could negotiate with the would-be buyer.

BtW it's not the best etiquette to resurrect a 10yo thread with an largely unrelated query about pricing.

Re: Anschutz 1761 Bolt

Pthatcher, It may be the ammunition. There are several threads in the pistol subforum discussing CCI ammunition, and theorising it's dimensioned more for sporting chambers than match chambers. From memory the driving bands are slightly longer to better engage (or reduce jump in) a longer sporting ch...

Re: New to diopters on rifle, eye strain concerns.

I think one of the earlier comments referenced measuring the distance from your rear sight to the front sight (sight radius) and getting a prescription for that... BUT... there are some very knowledgeable people who say that's not the way they would do it -- they would add "something" to ...

Re: New to diopters on rifle, eye strain concerns.

David, No, I wouldn't say an eyecup has any effect on eye relief. With aperture sights the rear aperture governs your field of view and focal depth, so it's the distance to this that matters. An eyecup will shade the rearsight, but won't affect the perceived size of the aperture. Personally I'm not ...

Re: New to diopters on rifle, eye strain concerns.

The thread in the rearsight for the iris is nominally 9.5 x 1mm*. Don't worry about this, as it has been standard on most European rearsights for decades, and is the default for iris eyepieces. You actively have to ask to get anything else. *I think it's not a standard metric thread, but an old Brit...

Re: New to diopters on rifle, eye strain concerns.

David, There's no problem with using a lens before you need glasses. I started with a +.5 lens at 26 to correct long sightedness, buy didn't wear glasses (initially for computer work) until I was 34. Re the rearsight position how far back is it? Normally, only the thumbscrew needs to contact the rec...

Re: New to diopters on rifle, eye strain concerns.

David, I started shooting smallbore in 1997, almost exclusively with aperture (dioptre) sights. I've noticed no long term strain on m6 eyes. I would make a few comments: 1) Correction - most opticians do not realise what aperture sight shooting entails, so don't assume that no correction is in order...

Re: NCAA Air Rifle 2023

A modern shooting jacket is heavier than a suit jacket, although some are lighter than others (my canvas/leather Monard is lighter than my canvas/synthetic/leather Anschutz), but it's not like body armour. If anything mediaeval armour was designed to allow more movement than a shooting suit.

Re: For Sale: Hammerli 120, White Lettering; one marked Switzerland

I'm merely interested in why such a normally trivial feature, such as white paint, in the markings is so significant to the sale.

Your response doesn't address this which makes me curious. If it's supported by say a letter from the factory, why not say so? Otherwise why draw attention?

Out of interest is there supporting documentation showing the white inlay was done by the factory? I'm just curious as this is sometimes done by owners to highlight the markings.

Sorry, can't help with the air pistol.

The SA mk 10b was a 2000 action but the 10a was a 64 though.

Re: Anschutz M10

That's a Match 64 action isn't it? Anschutz have 64 manuals as free PDFs on their website: https://www.anschuetz-sport.com/en/down ... leitungen/

These won't cover the stock I'm afraid, as I think that was made by Savage.

Re: the dominance of Capapie shooting suits

Those are certainly good reasons to chose Capapie, especially if you are looking to upgrade or kit out a team. Although I don't think either fully explains why so many International shooters switched from Thune, Sauer, Kuestermann et al in 2018/2019. If you already have a new bespoke top quality, wh...

Re: smallbore questions

1) Is about getting the butt to fit the shoulder. Depending on the shape and size of this area a buttplate that's dead perpendicular to the bore may leave gaps. If the plate doesn't adjust enough to fill these tilting the plate to bias it towards the collar bone or armpit may do the job. In prone so...

Re: Question re Torquing Anschutz Action Screws

I read a year or two ago that Anschutz was no longer recommending 6nm on metal and 5nm on wood stocks. The latest manual on the website*, just gives 5nm for both round and square actions. Alu stocks are shown, and wood wasn't mentioned. *https://cloud.anschuetz-sport.com/index.php/s/rPEF7YAYFB2dzJ5...

Re: FWB 2800 Bolt Issues

Light strokes can have a few mechanical causes: Weak spring Short striker (hammer in FWB speak) Striker dragging on the trigger Excess headspace Springs are normally inexpensive, so I'd try a new one first. If you know anyone else with a 2800 ask if you can compare the length if the striker. If your...
