Re: Any success/recommendations putting aperture sights on BRNO Mod 4?
Hi Fred, First, welcome to the forum! A lot of knowledgeable people here, for sure. BRNO manufactured a rear aperture-style sight for the Mod 4. And, yes, the receiver dovetail is non-standard (I *think* it is 16mm). In any event, I have two BRNO Mod 4's, both with this sight setup. Attached is a pi...

Re: Beginner needs help...
I've attached a pic showing the basic layout of the targets for our match (which is prone, BTW). The single bull located in the center is used for your unlimited sighters. Your shots for record are placed on the left and right targets, two shots per bull. So, for each stage of the match, you'd be sh...

Re: Beginner needs help...
The target that you need for 25 yd/75 ft is the A-7/5, available from Kruger USA or Pistoleer.com. I'd recommend the Kruger's as they're printed on better paper, IMHO, and the bullet cuts a more uniform hole. For competition purposes, two shots for record are placed on each bull. A separate, single ...

Re: Cataract Surgery
Martin - I had the lenses in both of my eyes replaced back in 2016. I chose the infinite focus or distant vision correction. I'm a prone shooter and use shooting glasses (Decot). When ordering the eyeglasses, I supplied Decot with a copy of my lens prescription, along with the sight radius of my rif...

Question re: Centra Score Crystal & Gehmann LUX foresights
I'm contemplating a new foresight for my Anschutz. Does anybody have any experience with either the Centra Score Crystal or Gehmann LUX designs? Both are being advertised as having improved contrast of the front sight due to the translucent tunnel body. Can anybody confirm that this concept actually...

Re: Handstops, Mine is "killing" me
In looking at my Anschutz H/S, I do not see how the T-nut could be modified to allow it to fit the M12 rail, unfortunately, as it's a pretty elaborate piece - not just a simple T-stud as found on the common, round knurled H/S. There might be other designs out there that could be modified to fit; I d...

Re: Handstops, Mine is "killing" me
I also own an H&R M12, along with two Anschutz Match 54's. Please bear in mind that the M12 uses a handstop rail that is dimensionally different than that used on the Anschutz. I use the Anschutz 4751 handstop on my Match 54s and my fullbore prone rifle, all of which have the "Anschutz"...

Re: Cataract Surgery and Shooting
I had cataract surgery for both eyes back in 2016 and everything turned out great. I would suggest that you try to find the best ophthalmologist in your area that you can (most important!!). Ask around for references - such as what you're doing now by your post. It's a common procedure today; howeve...

Hap & Tim -
Thank you, both, for the nice summary of the 1600 X-rifles. I feel lucky to own one and, to this day, it continues to exceed my expectations!

BRAVO!!! Well done Bobby! And thanks for sharing all of those pics. Really gives one an appreciation for the amount of work that you put into saving that MkII.

Hey Jon - You're welcome! Glad that you enjoyed the match. See you in January.jjbduke2004 wrote:Allow me to close this out:
On Saturday, 12/20 I shot an unsanctioned NRA-style 80 shot prone match in Guthsville, PA. It was a lot of fun, though I'm still sore.
Thanks to all those who contributed.

if he can't estimate the range a 22 will shoot, he wont have a clue how to use a mil dot reticle or have a clue how much the round will drop over distance. What I find amusing about the above comment is that I have over 40 years of competitive shooting experience in both smallbore and high power ri...

I'm only 18, so I don't think my eyes are wearing out anytime soon - MKilby If it's any consolation, I've also been dealing with floaters since my teen years (I'm now 55 yrs old). As others have suggested, see an opthalmologist just to cover your bases. And, as you go through life, if floaters are ...

+1 on Celestron F-ED
Agreed! I have the 80mm version. Might be a bit of overkill depending on your type of competition. The only real knock against it, maybe, is it's sheer physical size. It's great for occasional stargazing, also.cgroppi wrote:If you want to save some money, I highly recommend a Celestron Regal F-ED.

Re: batch testing
As an adjunct to a Caldwell type rest you might consider making or buying a flat plate that attaches to the rail. Front bags are available for many rests that are designed to fit a flat fore end such as found on benchrest rifles. Here's a link to a ready-made fore end plate setup. I have one which ...
