Your little pinkie, does it grip the 45? It should be just resting on a standard 45 grip. The 3rd and 4th fingers are the main gripping fingers. If the pinkie is involved in the grip, since it sits lowest to the axis of the bore, inconsistant pinkie pressure will throw shots low. The third and fourt...

Oh yes, faster lock time is as easy as changing out the mainspring housing spring with a heavier one. Normally a wadgun uses a light spring so that cycling is easier with the reduced loads. Faster locktimes include a heavier mainspring and a lightened hammer. I just looked at Midway's catalogue and ...

Flat based bullets are the way to go for any short range targets. Best way to explain this is that any misalignment of the bullet in the barrel is thrown more out of whack when the base extension exits the crown and the propellent gases hit it in the rear causing more oscillation. Classic example is...

If you have astigmatism, take your sight to the eye doctor. Put in your perscription and have the eye doc add dioptors to your glasses till the dot turns round. That will also be the correct perscription for iron sights.

I use a Star and push them nose first into the die. The bullet base edges should be sharp. Anything sort of rounded gets put back in the pot. I like the speed of the Star and use a mechanics trouble light to keep the lube soft. When it gets to weepy, I just shut off the light. The Star will align th...

The problem with lead bullets commercially produced with a magmacaster is the venturi effect of the needle valve and the creation of air pockets. All pot production using a needle is the same. Weight variation for this style production is usually double or more versus commercially jacketed bullets. ...

If ISSF is to successfully get rifle and pistol shooting into an appearance somewhere near noon, they ought to have a Team format also, as has been done in archery. Biathlon in winter competition, has done very well, but that sport is more set up for TV. The worst part of the Olympics is that NBC gi...

Tony,
I was referring to the original question about the guns used in the Olympics and why they are so different. So the speeds I mentioned were pertaining to Feinwerkbau, Anschutz and Walther pellet guns in ISSF competitions. Sorry to confuse you.

Shooting an air rifle is quite different than shooting a 22 or a centerfire. The pellet is shot at 570 fps or at least in that range while a 22 is just under the speed of sound at 1140fps or thereabouts. The time that the pellet is traversing the barrel is a lot longer requiring more follow through....

The correct thing to do is keep your cadence, call the commands while looking to see your block officers. In Bristol, Indiana there was a shot fired early in the commands. A shooter had shot a bullet through his hand. The Safety officer on that block indicated trouble and the range officer called fo...

My 16 year old son shoots a Walther UIT from the late 60's or 70's for 3P and his prone gun is a Winchester model 52 D from the early 60's. The 52 is a tackdriver and I believe it is as accurate as any gun you can buy today at any price.

Your just a yungun. One of our rifle club new members started this past year. He is 45 and just got back from Perry- the nationals His scores were 396/400, 1182/1200 ect. His Palma scores were 444/450 at 800, 900 and 1000 yds. He did have a marksman card, lol, not for long. Does that help. He got gr...

I would at least get the barrel recrowned. Cleaning mistakes more than barrel wear or throat erosion are a 22's worst nightmare. This typically affects the crown. A 20x stereoscopic microscope would be helpful.

That is a great 22 score for John. You fail to mention who that "other guy" is? Brian is tough to beat. I see Kimberly Hobart is rolling through the competition again. I shot with her in the early 90's, and I haven't kept track of how many woman's championships she has won, but I know it i...

I don't see where bedding an aluminum action could hurt the accuracy of your rifles. It would only help. I wouldn't spend too much time on it as ammunition is more of a factor than bedding. Your daughter has a great rifle and it shouldn't be a hard task to get ammo that would consistantly hold the 1...

I guess I am a throughback. I use the old military LSA lube. Never had a problem. I'd be careful about any moly grease or lube. Moly is hydroscopic and absorbs water. It will rust parts quickly in a humid climate. Boots Obermeyer shoots moly bullets in highpower and Palma. He always runs an oil patc...

Buy an Ismash 7-3 or 7-4 depending on your size. This rifle will do all these well. I bought a Biathlon Basic for my sons 10 years ago. That rifle would group 1/4" at 50 yds with R-50 ammo. It never grouped larger than 3/4" with any cheap fodder. I rebuilt it into a 7-3 and it shot well at...

Usually biathletes wear sunglasses so they don't get snowblind. Just out of curiosity, Champoins Choice has a Gehmann Microsight Superfilter, on page 78 in their catalogue. Have you had any experience with these? It is proported to allow focus on both the front sight and the target at the same time....
