If it is 300m 3 position as shot in the Olympics, and you have a $1000 budget you will need a rifle with a rail, handstop, sling, and target sights, ect. This will break the bank if bought new, so I would check the used target rifle market. The usual calibers in 300m are 6mm benchrest, 6.5x47L, 243 ...

Ernie, I use Rapine mold prep applied with a cotton swab to prevent any sticking. Hypothetically the aluminum should be a little rougher but the mold prep does away with all that. I have never had a mold warp on me in aluminum or brass. The pins or the sprue plates are the usual culprits. The pins c...

Thank you gentlemen for all your replies. Just wanted to let you know his level of competence. He shoots 135's in 100yd palma prone. most are x's and 10's with a few big fliers. Indoor he shoots 90 prone. Sitting and kneeling he shoots low 80's. Standing is a disaster. He needs a lot of work standin...

Challenger PCP
Are the Challanger PCP's by Crosman competitive out of the box? I have a junior shooter who shoots 4P 22 rifle and will shoot Highpower and Palma next year. Could he go to State with this rifle? Just want a few opinions from this learned crowd. Thanks in advance.

Boots Obermeyer has recrowned a few of my rifles. He checks them with a 20X streoscopic microscope. At that definition things can get really ugly at the crown and down the bore a little ways, but you can tell if the crown needs to be cleaned up. Most of the ugly comes from chatter with a piloted cro...

I came close in pistol. I earned the bronze medal for finishing in the top 10% of the civilians competing in the match. Getting your tab is an expensive proposition in either rifle or pistol as far as the equipment goes. There is a shortcut as mentioned above. Start with the best teachers you can fi...

Its all in the grip. When you shoot PPC my weak hand barricade aiming point on a silhouette target is shaded outside the ten ring to the left and a shade down. The reason is my left wrist or weak hand is more resistant to flex than my right wrist. Also my left wrist is weaker in the vertical so the b...

If you are going to shoot 2700 matches and your 45 is going to be a 1911 version, then I suggest that you pick up a High Standard military model. I shot a Victor with Herrett trainer grips to approximate the width of my Series 70 45 with standard grips. I even stippled the front grip of the HS to ma...

I buy an extra lens for my glasses that has the diopter script built in for my dominant eye. My little trick is to bring in an aimpoint mounted on a pistol. I hold it out at armslength, away from the doc of course. The hourglass rayed red dot can be cleaned up with the doc adding diopters to your pe...

I bought a Biathlon Basic for $270. and a 7.3 junior stock and trigger from Mark at Altius for $110. I had to do a little inletting and bedding. The stock had a crack that I repaired with epoxy, but it wasn't too hard. I fabricated an aluminum sleeve over and under the Weaver base with two set screw...
