Re: Fwb corkscrew barrel

I'd love to have one, but I suspect it will sell for big bucks. If I could still shoot well, it would be fun to compete with. Now, I suppose I could use it as an excuse...

Re: Draft Notes on Working with O-rings for Air Guns

I found some very nice (and very cheap) bamboo toothpicks at Ocean State Job Lot. They are "Baker's Secret" brand, and you get two plastic bottles of 170 picks each for $1.99 (340 total). They are standard size picks, and are definitely much stronger than the regular birch wood ones you ge...

Re: Draft Notes on Working with O-rings for Air Guns

The big expense in making seals is the mold. With CNC manufacturing, the costs on even that have gone way down. Lots of places now advertise that they can make custom size O-rings for reasonable prices, even in very limited qualtities. It's possible Benelli specified the U-seal for the Kite firing v...

Re: what's the different between 9cm cap/visor and 10cm?

Rifle shooters may prefer the smaller brim because of the close proximity of the rear sight. For pistol, it's shouldn't matter.

Re: Draft Notes on Working with O-rings for Air Guns

If it's a regular round O-ring, it may be hard to find an exact replacement, but again, you can almost always find a substitute that will work. There are fancier seals that some manufacturers use that are probably harder to substitute. Benelli (and I believe Morini as well) use a "hydraulic rod...

Re: Draft Notes on Working with O-rings for Air Guns

Also, some difficult to locate seals (Walther pressure reg face seal comes to mind) can be located on assembly with a very small amount of super glue applied with a pin. Helps locate and retain during assembly and working life. As an assembly I use a grease from "Festo "pneumatics. If the...

Re: Draft Notes on Working with O-rings for Air Guns

As a removal tool, I usually use a bamboo (bbq) skewer, sharpened/pointed to the required thinness. They tend to be stronger than toothpicks, IMO. I've had some success in hard to reach areas (-> very narrow groove the o-ring sat in) by tapering a skewer over a longer length that would allow some d...

Re: Draft Notes on Working with O-rings for Air Guns

Here's what Parker has to say on the matter: "In dynamic applications, the hardness of the O-ring is doubly important because it also affects both breakout and running friction. Although a harder compound will, in general, have a lower coefficient of friction than a softer material, the actual ...

Re: Draft Notes on Working with O-rings for Air Guns

Thanks for that suggestion. I've never differentiated them that way, but it makes some sense. However, it goes against the notion that you want harder O-rings for wear resistance. I wonder if the Parker design book has any suggestions along those lines. It's not very well organized, but at close to ...

Re: Draft Notes on Working with O-rings for Air Guns

A database of O-ring info for various pistol models would be a valuable resource, but it's beyond the scope of the notes I put together. It would require constant updating as new info came to light, and new pistols were added. I've put together a document for Tau-7's, which I believe I have posted i...

Draft Notes on Working with O-rings for Air Guns

I've been doing a lot of repairs on air guns lately, which invariably involves O-rings. Especially in pistols maintained by others in the past, I've noticed evidence of what I will call "less than ideal" practices (including some by the manufacturers). Because I'm not going to be around fo...

Re: Caring for an MG2E

I've attached a write-up on how to remove the carrier. Hopefully that will help the process go smoothly.

Someday, when the bench with my camera is clean at the same time my carrier is dirty, I will try to make a video.

Re: Air Pistol selection

I’ve got two compacts, FWB P44 and in the last month, an Evo10e. Both weigh 900 grams. Both test cards show a very tight grouping. Why even consider a full length pistol? Is there a view that compacts are for juniors, ladies and older people with less shoulder strength? Does this bother you? Length...

Re: Air Pistol selection

When comparing to "old" air pistols from the 80-90s all the new ones are comparatively lighter. Pretty much all the current generation full size air pistols (with the exception of the Pardini k12 iirc) come in below 1kg. A Steyr LP1 for example weights 1110g going by the manual. The curre...

Re: Air Pistol selection

Just to muddy the waters further, you can always put a short cylinder on a full length pistol. That way you get the long sight radius, and the option of adding weight at a wider range of distances. Morini also has a short version of their 162EI. They move the rear sight back so the sight radius is u...

Re: Secret Decoder for Walther "CP2 Match" Parts?

Thanks! That's where I found the pin, but the cocking link is not listed. The same part is used in the later models of CP2, the CP2 Match and the CP3, so I'm hoping it's not too scarce. The catch is that it's probably not a part that would need replacing often, so a lot of places might not think to ...

Re: Secret Decoder for Walther "CP2 Match" Parts?

THANK YOU! I found that page on Walther's web site, but the display was sized just right so I didn't realize there was an additional section below the list of manuals that had diagrams & parts lists. CP2 Cocking Parts.jpg I'm not sure what happened in the past, but cocking link (part #314) had p...

Secret Decoder for Walther "CP2 Match" Parts?

I'm trying to fix up a CP2 Match that belongs to the college team I help coach. The goal is to sell it to raise some money, but I want to make sure it's in good working order to maximize the price. I want to investigate replacing a few parts, but the manual doesn't include a diagram or parts list. I...

Re: PCP air compressor recommendation

No offense to our host, but their selection of fill gear is somewhat limited. There are a couple of things to consider: 1) Used tanks are often available cheap, but they will need to be hydrotested. Check to see how much that will cost at a local dive shop. The dive shops may also have used tanks, w...

Re: Caring for an MG2E

I will try to put together a quick rundown on removing the carrier. I should have some time over the holidays to piece something together, and I already have photos of some of the details. As long as you don't run into anything odd, it's not too tricky.
