Re: Shooting Range Setup - Basement

Here's a video on a rag trap: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cxpVHwiVUQ I've used terrycloth towels in the past, and they do tend to catch and hold the pellets more than fabric like old blue jeans. There are also several people using rubber mulch for traps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0AFyRyQ...

Re: Shooting Range Setup - Basement

One thing to consider is lead dust. Any trap that uses a hard surface to stop the pellets will produce a certain amount of lead dust. If you have it in your basement & don't have small children wandering around, it's probably OK. The advantage of the rags or ductseal traps is that they keep the ...

Re: FWB AW93 Feeding Issue

Feeding problems are often affected by the magazines. Label them, and see if there is any difference in how often you get mis-feeds with each one. Does the mis-feed mostly occur with a particular round? First round jams may have difference causes from 5th round jams. You can also feed a round, but d...

I forget if it is BSP 1/8" or not, but some connections require a copper washer. Best Fittings is great to work with, and I'm sure they will help you sort it out.

Re: Accurize vs MantisX vs Scatt vs Trace

I'm not convinced the Mantis has the sensitivity to really track your hold if you are shooting precision events well. It's intended for defense/combat shooters who think hitting a 6 inch area on a silhouette target at 20 feet is "marksmanship". It should show you gross errors from poor tri...

Re: I Need Advice on Improving Consistency in 10m Air Pistol Shooting

Examine your shot process, one step at a time. Are you doing anything unnecessary that is introducing variability? I see lots of shooters who will re-grip the pistol after every shot, or get out of position frequently, and then have to get their position back (give the take....). Do you have your th...

Re: Aiming mindset

IF you have a spotting scope, you can learn something from EVERY shot. Without knowing which shots are on-call, and which ones aren't, you are handicapping yourself a LOT.

There are all sorts of inexpensive options, including an old webcam.

Re: Aiming mindset

Can you call your shots accurately? That should allow you to separate aiming errors from other technique problems. It will also let you know when you have lost focus on your sights, because it's impossible to call your shots if you aren't focused on sight alignment. You shouldn't be thinking about t...

Re: Shallow rear sight

The general recommendation is set things up so the front sight to be "square" when it's in the notch. The brain & visual system like symmetry, and square helps with that. You also want to make sure that the front sight is ALWAYS clearly visible, no matter how big your wobble is. Lots o...

Re: Recommendation for a cross-trainer air pistol

A Hammerli AP20 is about the third the cost of a Steyr, and is a pretty decent entry level air pistol. You need a SCUBA tank or a pump to fill either one. The AP20 can be upgraded down the road with nicer grips & a cylinder with a gauge if desired.

Re: Wavering and Leaning

It sounds like you are forcing yourself to use a stance your body doesn't like. You are assuming a UPOA (Unnatural Point of Aim). The current "fad" of having your body and feet parallel to the line to the target is a new thing. I think it takes a LOT of training to assume that position and...

Re: FWB AW93 Feeding Issue

If it's relatively new, it's unlikely to be carbon build up in the chamber, but mixing ammo flavors can cause problems of its own unless you clean the chamber carefully between brands. I think some lubes react with others & can gum up the works. If cleaning at the range is an issue, shoot at lea...

Re: MatchGun MG2 Carrier Maintenance

The springs can break. I've had to replace one once (with 3 pistols in service). There is a weak point introduced when the form the hooks, and I sent that info to the factory to see if they could get their spring maker to fix that, but I have no idea if they did that, or how many older springs are s...

Re: Grips: natural point of aim and cant

In looking at the photos, it looks like there is a gap between the side of the heel of the hand and the inside of the grip. Shooting well is all about consistency. Gaps are bad for that. You either need to rotate your hand so you have repeatable contact there, or add putty or some filler (like moles...

Re: Grip sizing

This is why a lot of people invest in Rink grips, which have more options. I wouldn't recommend that when you are starting out. You need to spend some time learning the fundamentals so you can figure out what you really need. Putty is your friend... There are several articles around on grip fitting:...

Re: How much less accurate is the Steyr LP50 due to the trigger?

I have an LP50, and have never noticed the slightest hint that it might produce lower scores than with my Morini or LP10. If you put it in a rest, you might see a slightly larger group, and I think the test targets would show that. As a practical matter, the difference is negligible. If the concern ...

Re: Miracle Cure for Fussy Benelli .22's!

That's certainly a pretty big gap. You might consider at least trying a new extractor, or getting another custom one (or two) fabricated that is shorter. That may be easier than trying to fix the bolt. There are lots of fabrication techniques available now (laser cutters, waterjets, wire EDM) that w...

Re: Miracle Cure for Fussy Benelli .22's!

That may actually be a mistake. You want the extractor softer than the bolt so it wears and not the hole in the bolt, which is WAY more difficult to repair.

Also, before you drive yourself crazy unnecessarily, have you seen this?:

Re: Miracle Cure for Fussy Benelli .22's!

Usually the extractor corners wear faster than the bolt. I'd start with a new extractor. Also, see:
