I have been canting my rifle to the left (also right handed) for the last 13 years, easily between 30% and 40% cant. Every time I experimented to lessen the cant, I ended up with strain in my neck and a position that is not comfortable for me. I don't think that canting the rifle is a problem, but y...

MEC Contact III butt plate for prone

Hi all, I have a MEC Contact III butt plate and I am considering using it for prone instead of my standard Anschultz hook butt plate. I have read elsewhere on the web that this butt plate is designed to be an air rifle butt plate. Is there any reason why I should not use the Contact III? I attached ...

Roo said, Rules bodies, as Roo said, they make rules. Most of us here are shooters, we should simply concentrate on shooting tens... within the guidlines of the rules. Just some rambiling philosophy for a Monday morning. :) Agree, no use in fighting the system that has been there from before I was ...

Thanks for everybody's insights. I'm sorry for all the "why"s. I just enjoy the sport and I am the kind of person who loves knowing the reasons behind why things are the way they are. I enjoy knowing how a light bulb makes light, or why the rule says no lens on the rifle, so that one day w...

Please understand that I do not want to magnify my sight picture, or use any type of magnification in any of my sights what so ever. My prescription lens is a correcting lens and I just do not understand the ISSF rules regarding correcting lenses. Rule 7.4.1.3.1 states that correcting lenses must no...

I hear what 'Dude is saying and completely agree. If shooting with peep sights, it would be a disadvantage shooting against someone with magnifications built onto his sights. However, the magnification can still be achieved (on paper) if the one lens is worn by the shooter. If the one lens is in the...

Anschutz does manufacture a lens frame that can be attached to the rear sight, but as 'Dude mentioned, against ISSF rules. So, if shooting matches that aren't shot according to ISSF rules, why not try it? Just check the applicable rules first, though. Pity though, don’t really know what advantage a ...

I shoot with a metal insert and have adjusted my front sight so that the bar is level, as my rifle is canted when I shoot. In that way I use the bar to verify that my cant has not changed from shot to shot. That is my preference, but I know of a lot of shooters at my club who shoot with plastic inse...

Ok, experimented by removing the hook off of the buttplate and found that the recoil (and my confidence!) was seroiusly affected! The shot recoil was all over the show and the hook really help more than I realised. Also tried Brian's advice (thanks!) and it seemed to help a bit. The problem is still...

Is a hook butt plate a necessity for prone?

Hi all! I currently shoot 50m prone only with a Anschutz 2013 (690mm) in a wood stock. The stock has the standard hook plate fitted. What are the advantages of using the hook plate in the prone position? I have to offset my butt plate AND cant my rifle to try and get it close to my head. If I remove...
