Re: IZH-35M, what happened?

The frequent mention of the IZH-35M makes me wonder what happened to it. Low interest? Production problems?.. The initial run of them had soft metal. That may have been part or all of the reason for their headspace and slam-fire troubles. I doubt it was a CNC pistol, the ones I fired were sloppy lo...

Bruce,
I have used Fedex to mail the cylinders to myself for pickup at Kinkos (owned by Fedex). I am sure there must be a Kinkos in Columbus

Revolver Tuning

When you tune a revolver action by reducing the strength of the hammer and rebound springs, you need to make sure that neither hammer nor trigger are rubbing against the frame. Brownells sells thin shim washers to help center the hammer/trigger.

I have a Crosman 2300 from their custom shop, so I am also quite familiar with this model. I had the trigger worked over by a gunsmith and at a nice crisp, single stage, 600 gm it is adequate for someone just starting out in 10M AP. I can get 40-50 shots at full power and I guess that with some adju...

Tim, the issue is more than simply posting match results for USAS matches. After a difficult web site start up several years ago (many complaints on TT), USAS finally had a working web site. Now they have torn down the old site and are trying set up one with a new vendor. It has been a very slow pro...

Fred, I have the new style Morini compensator installed on both my Morini and Pardini pistols. I clean them after 500-1000 rounds. Not much of an issue - I remove them from the barrel and soak them in cleaner (Slip 2000 Choke Tube Cleaner). Cleaning the lead buildup from the muzzle face is a more te...

Steve, I agree with your comments. I have played with the depth setting of my rear sight notch in order to minimize the distraction, and I keep my focus on the top and upper sides of the front sight. In the U.S. most club level matches use a variety of target holders (including the infamous B40/4) a...

Bob, I don't understand the nature of your disagreement with Steve and with Ayoob's article. The article is directed at shooters using big bore pistols in action shooting disciplines, but the underlying principles apply to other pistol shooting disciplines. In the case of grip, where does Ayoob say ...

Fall Regional Rifle/Pistol at Ft Benning

Has anyone seen any results posted? The matches were held last week, but no results posted yet on the USAS site.

If this is the bowling pin shooting I am familiar with, it requires rapid target acquisition. If you are shooting iron sights, the artificial lighting may cause you to lose focus on the front sight, resulting in poor sight alignment. With a red dot changes in lighting and background from your practi...

Hi Pete. I haven't been on the USAS web site since April. Just went on to set up some AP and FP PTO's for the Fall/Winter season and found it totally changed. Is it still possible to set up/get approval for matches on line and enter match results and fees on line? Not a friendly system! I can't even...

Re: Velocity of LP10

[quote="MG5E-ownerMy FWB P44 is as "absorbed, muzzle compensated and barrel-vented" as the Steyr LP10, but consumes less air pr. shot, set at same muzzle velocity as LP10. That puzzles me some. The Steyr factory velocity setting may be low to "camuflage" the high air consump...

Funny how I conversely interpreted a sharp 35 g rap in the knuckles at the instant of the shot breaking as A Bad Thing . . . True, but it hasn't kept people using mechanical triggers from shooting excellent scores. I am not aware of any studies/data that show that people using electronic trigger pi...

Over here in the corner in the FWIW category . . . Yes, the motion of the slide against the hammer can significantly affect felt recoil. In the Colt 45ACP and its clones this motion is determined by the angle at the bottom of the firing pin retainer plate. In most commercial pistols this plate is heavily radiused ~0.125"). Some custom gunsmiths...

Isabel,
Yes, I have used Zins' 'steering' technique when shooting the LP50 with its single stage roll trigger. Trigger weight was the normal 530 gm, and I didn't play with heavier settings. I don't think his technique is suited for the usual AP with 2 stage crisp trigger.

Dave, Last year I shot NRA AP Silhouette with the IZH46 (iron sights) and the LP50 (TrueGlow 2x red dot scope). The LP50, with some mods, is an excellent pistol for silhouette.
