William, If your hand is tired by the end of the match due to pressure from the shelf, then your grip is probably not the same from start to finish of the match. The purpose of the adjustable shelf is to help you maintain a consistant grip. I adjust mine to provide moderate pressure, which I find al...

Entry level pistols

Take a look at the Postal Match section on the Target Shooting Canada website (http://www.targetshooting.ca/). The latest scores (Dec) will give you a pretty good idea of what can be done with such 'entry' level pistols as the IZH46 and the Brno Tau 7 compared to Steyr, Morini, Hammerli, etc. Also, ...

Pellet Sizer

I've seen these selling for $80 +/- on Ebay. If you can buy one cheaply enough, it's an easy way to make a few dollars.

I have one on my loading bench also. Bought it from Beeman over 20 years ago. :-0

another interesting IZh-46 clone:

Ruig,
Tell me more about this AP. It looks like an IZH46 that has been converted from pneumatic to compressed air. Is it available outside of Russia?

Very interesting. You have managed to convert the trigger to essentially a long roll single stage action. I used to have such a trigger on my Pardini SPE, but I have no idea of how the previous owner did it. Do you have a procedure that you can share with us?

Re: Trigger "consistency" of Steyr LP 5

And to Fred Mannis: Lubricating the surfaces of the sear with Gun Snot. I do not know that product. What is it? Syntetic oil? With teflon or grapfite? With moly? I have used a product named "Trigger Slick" that i bought in UK some ears back for my S&W revolver. Do you think this produ...

Thanks, David. I purchased the LP5P used recently and had not touched the trigger adjustments till now. I adjusted both the trigger take-up (dead travel?) and trigger stop, and now seem to have a rolling type trigger release. How is the sear adjusted? There is an allen screw in the frame just behin...

Good morning Warren.

You ought to post the recent note in the Olympic Pistol section on Don Nygord's writeup of how to adjust a Pardini SP trigger. Don worked his magic on my SPE trigger a few months ago and it feels like a different gun.

Regards,
Fred

Paul, I recently purchased an LP50 to use in AP matches as well as for practicing TF/RF for BE during the winter. With the heavy trigger and a red dot it is a very good practice gun. I also like it better than my IZH46M for AP matches - much better balance and feel. The trigger is consistent, but it...

Quality

I find this discussion incredible. Over on the Bullseye-L board there has been a discussion of low end 22 pistols (S&W, Ruger) and high end (Hammerli, Walther, Pardini, etc) with the general view that you get what you pay for. But a Walther that cost 5X a Ruger should not only shoot a lot better...

Natural or synthetic camphor wax (NOT the oil) is usually available from a supermarket (try the areas where they stock mothballs, or the medicinal items), or a pharmacist/druggist. A small piece about the size of a pea will last a long time if kept in a reasonably airtight container (such as a pell...

Grips for LP50.

Neal Johnson, www.nealjguns.com, carries Vitarbo grips for the Steyr. These grips are made for your hand and cost $96.

I purchased my LP50 from Pilkington and got the Steyr FP grips. They fit very nicely.

SPE Dry Fire Plug

An occasional hit, such as when we miscount and pull the trigger a 6th time, isn't going to do terrible damage. Continuous dry firing on an empty chamber isn't a real good idea. That's why they make the dry fire plug and ship it with the gun when it is new. Do yourself a favor and contact Don Nygor...

Re: One word: Yes

When I dry fire, I use a dryfire plug that came with the pistol. it holds the bolt open to the point that the hammer does not strike the firing pin and therefore, no danger of a dent. Tom Tom, Just came accross your note while browsing TT. I never got a dryfire plug with my SPE (bought it used). Co...

I would appreciate a copy of your list as well. Please send to

Have been following the SP trigger adjustment discussion with much interest ( I have an SPE). Really studying & understanding the trigger drawing sounds like the best place to start.

Moving IZH46 grips

I used Brownells epoxy/fiberglass kit to bed the handles to the grip frame. Just the bottom 1 " of the grip frame is sufficient.
