Barrel Porting (drilling holes) to reduce muzzle-flip

Yes. This can be done and I did it many years ago on a .22 Rapid-Fire pistol which was used to collect a bronze or silver in one of the Commonwealth Games. I cannot recommend doing it. It is extremely difficult, though not impossible, to remove the inevitable burr in the bore (no matter how careful ...

FAS SP607 (and other) feeding

Shooting Kiwi As a sometime gun designer perhaps I can cast some light. Your observations do not give me any surprise. Moving a cartridge from a magazine, or a belt, in any gun, is a difficult design problem because, for most of the travel, the cartridge is not constrained laterally. A few earlier g...

fundamentals: doing two, or more, things at once

A part of this thread has stumbled over the question as to whether you really can do two things at once. Recent research into this topic, in the context of driving AND using a mobile phone, has come up with the answer that the brain naturally queues tasks with a delay between tasks of about the reac...

Mangolin pistol

In a previous incarnation - 50 years ago - I was employed as a gun designer. The Mangolin pistol was, and is, in my view, the only real improvement made to the ergonomics of pistols in 500 years. 50 years ago, assault rifles were being introduced to the armies of the world. The improvement in automa...

It seems to me that it is expecting a lot to hope that the bedding remains OK over a period of 27 years. The quality of contact between action and bed is defined at the microscopic level. I would not expect epoxy to have that level of long term dimensional stability. There may be oil contamination, ...

I ought to elaborate by saying that all the sporter rifles were being used for deer stalking in Scotland and their use was invariably in the wet, which puts very severe demands on bedding in wood. Not helped by the very poor quality of commercial bedding out of the box. My resolution of the problem ...

funny shots

I have followed this thread carefully. I recall that some years ago I had a hobby activity of fixing centre fire sporting rifles whose grouping had gone to pot. Contrary to some of the posters, I found it was common for a bedding fault to group badly, but systematically. In particular, two groups we...

Rink grips

I think previous posters have only scored trivial brownie points. I have just bought a Rink grip for a new LP2 to help with a painful neck-shoulder condition, which made getting my eye in line with the sights rather difficult. The Rink product range includes a shape in which the hand form is rotated...

Sideways stability - how does one acheive it???

I was surprised to discover that consistent placement of the non-shooting hand is absolutely necessary - for me - to achieve a consistent NPA. Quite small changes in hand placement swings the NPA fully across the 10 metre target.
hope this helps

How do I know if the grip is too small?

James From here, in Scotland, your grip seems to be just the right size for your hand. Any minor lack of fit should be corrected using a suitable filler. I note that you have the ends of your fingers and thumb pressing on the grip. This is a NO-NO! Especially for your little finger. You will find yo...

pull-throughs

Dan You really should NOT use a pull through on your gun. The pull though cord will pick up abrasives which will wear your gun in the worst possible place --- the muzzle. The British army has known about "cord wear" from the use of pull-throughs for at least one hundred years. hope this he...

footwear for pistol shooting?

The idea of shooting in socks is really interesting. It had never occurred to me. In a different context, I much prefer to dance bare-foot because of my much greater awareness of my ground-foot contact. I tried out this idea on bare concrete, using an air pistol. I found my shooting stance to be rea...

optimum out-of-box weight for pistol

Further to my previous posting the LP5P is now modified. Harry Preston, www.steyr-uk.com , advised that this modification had already been carried by himself, and that cropping the barrel was unnecessary. A LP2 compensator fits directly to the LP5 barrel. I also fitted a LP2 Compact air cylinder. I ...

optimum out-of-box weight for pistol

Background: I am 73 and have chronic neck and shoulder pain. Physical strength has also decreased. Some years ago I obtained a Steyr LP5P and found repeatedly lifting same a real pain: fatigue setting in within 10 shots; and my grouping also was a pain. I saw a 60 shot course of fire as unachievable...

Lubrication of hammer LP10

alexey There does not appear to be a proper cross section of the LP10. I had assumed that the hammer was sealed from high pressure air as in the LP5. Looking at the exploded diagram - I hate 'em - it seems that the valve operating rod (hit by the hammer) is NOT actually sealed so that oil could migr...

alexey recommend lightly lubricate with thin oil, but without additives (PTFE), as these can make the trigger pull erratic. NONE of this oil in areas with high pressure air. glad to see my diagnosis had been correct. This was not based on previous experience with Steyr products, but was a straight f...

Purchase advice for beginner/intermediate

I shoot an LP5. I have shoulder problems with the result that the gun is too heavy. The gun shoots far better than I can! I have recently ordered a LP2 Compact on the argument that it is very easy to increase the weight, but most exceedingly difficult to make a reduction. There is a great deal to be...
