Re: New world record on 50m pistol

The match that Skanaker shot his 583 was at the 1984 Olympic range in CA and it was a "Grand Prix" match...which I don't really know what that means but the conditions of the match did not qualify it for a new WR. Anyway, I was shooting next to him that day, with him being on my left. Too ...

Re: American Intl Pistol

It is always looks easier when on the outside looking in. There are lots of factors that contribute to the performance level required to be competitive at these high level competitions. These matches definitely have a different air to them which can be psychologically intimidating. It is one thing t...

Powder availability

Never before has the shooting industry seen a run on supplies like we have in the last few years. The powder companies are at 100% capacity, running 24/7. Production time is being divided between the unprecedented demands of the ammo industry and the handloaders. There are no other outside influence...

Sights

Shooting a 97 on the international 50 meter target is a score anyone would be happy with. For myself, I judge how good a target is by how I do on the next one. A most likely time to shoot a poor target is right after a good one. I have no idea what his next target was and I hope it was another good ...

triggers

Some FP shooters like very light triggers. Some boost the pull up to 30 or 50 grams, maybe more. At any rate, FP is at the height of precision pistol shooting and until you have truly worked at it, the degree of difficulty and what really goes into it cannot be appreciated. This is not a remark to d...

trigger control

This point is hardly worth arguing except for the benefit perhaps of some new shooter. I was in the Walther factory in Germany years ago. There was a Free Pistol in their display case that had a electronic trigger, a wire coming off of the grip with a small box on the end with a button on it. This b...

Front sight

I wish more people would show up at the matches I go to with no front sight. Brian is a very talented shooter for sure, but he is so very wrong about free and air pistol trigger control not requiring skill. The fact is this...trigger control and sight alignment are both equally vital. They are linke...

Pardini

My Pardini has functioned 100% since I purchased it 2 1/2 years ago. I have shot Eley Tenex, CCI standard velocity, CCI Green Tag and Federal Ultra Match. However, my Pardini SP is not the rapid fire version. At any rate, it goes without saying that Eley is one of the premier target ammo companies. ...

Trigger pull

The safest way to watch me shoot these days is on video. I may not be a crazy as Rover, but it is always something to shoot for. When I finally get there, I am going to change my name to Raving. Good to hear from you John and thanks for the compliment...and definitely the same to you. Hope you are d...

You forgot jerk...not that you're a jerk, but jerk, controlled jerk. But sometimes I am an out of control jerk. That is another matter. And, when it is a really bad shot, I add the word "off" to accentuate the way I feel about myself. This is often enough that I have changed my range name ...

porting barrel

Porting the barrel will likely do nothing other than change the way you feel about it. This being somewhat an experimental operation, my recommendation is to make sure you leave yourself with a plan B. The only viable plan B is to have the option of replacing this barrel with a new one should it get...

For lube I recommend a synthetic oil/grease, not a silicone based lube. Silicone is great for rubber seals or plastic parts, but in my opinion it is inadequate for metal to metal and might cause premature wear. I recommend a synthetic oil/grease because if some gets on any rubber o rings, they will ...

Morini

I am with Rob. Any standard velocity ammo will get you going. The groups provided by the factory are part of their quality control and marketing process. They simply test different ammo until they get a good group and then pack the gun up. Other than that, the test group and ammo type used are prett...

I think the Morini may have fallen out of favor with the top shooters because the design has gotten a bit old. However, I think it is a very nice and capable AP. I borrowed a friends 162 Titanium for a couple weeks a while back and liked it a lot. I am not sure the addition of a titanium striker rea...

I think more is made of pellet group sizes than what most of us can appreciate. Too much time is wasted shooting groups and not enough time spent practicing good technique. The experience I have had with Scott's pellets is they shoot very good, way better than what my abilities can appreciate. Since...

Jerry, since the desired velocity is approx 710 fps, then is the solution to go to a 16 twist barrel rather than try to speed the load up to increase the bullet rpm? I wonder how much velocity you would need to stabilize a 148 gr HBWC out of a 18 twist barrel. Does it help any to go to a 148 gr BBWC...

Buy them from Scott. He is nice enough to have this forum and not charge people for selling stuff here.
