Re: Brief and limited experience with youth rifle selection
Perhaps I should mention (and if I shouldn't, let me know and I'll delete this), I do have one custom produced short barrel 1807 with custom shortened and contoured (fore-end) RH stock, and one original KKJ with dst that can be made available for purchase. These were not team or group guns and the 1...

Re: Brief and limited experience with youth rifle selection
Very accurate observation about old Soviet rifles. Compared to these, the KKJ and KJS are less than 2/3 the size and about half the weight physically, but have no adjustability, and somewhat better accuracy (and usually, durability). Although availability varies, they also are somewhat more availabl...

Brief and limited experience with youth rifle selection
A few of the camps near my current location wanted significantly higher accuracy rifles for their youth programs, to give the kids "a taste" of what can be done with relatively high quality rifles. For that purpose, the Walther KK100 and Club Sporter, KKM, and UIT worked very well. The oth...

Re: Pardini GT9
For me, this was a field use gun, not competition target. The main quirk was that chambering of the next round is quite sensitive to the ammunition recoil and therefore, to recoil spring rate. There are (or were) 3 tensions available, and depending on the ammunition used, a variety or secondary spri...

Re: 300 m standard - good first rifle
Insightful question. Perhaps not relevant for the person who originally asked the question (the MA laws are far stricter now, anyway). However helpful for me. In checking the current MA law, a solution for how to provide a large number of match rifles and pistols to the MIT (Cambridge) firearms acti...

Re: 300 m standard - good first rifle
Yes, but the offset design is pre-A1. By the A1, the position was placed midline to make adjustment easier, and the loss in aim superiority was not considered "relevant".

Re: 300 m standard - good first rifle
It may be advisable to check MA laws regarding the requirements for possession of live metallic cartridge ammunition in MA, especially by non-residents and those not licensed to possess firearms in that state. My understanding, which may be wrong, is that the more recent rules or at least their inte...

Re: 300 m standard - good first rifle
On the AUG and M-1 sniper, the metal sights are center-line. The optical scope, however, is offset to the left. On the Tanner, the scope mount also is offset to the left. On the G&E scope mount for the old dovetail, the scope could be either centerline, or offset to the left depending on how it ...

5th Force, Dark Energy, and 300 m standard - good first rifl
The initial comment and question are a little like the reports in the 1960s-1980s of anomalous measurements of the force of gravity, that indicated there was a 5th, antigravity force in the universe. Those measurements were viewed as flukes, errors, fakes, or who knows what. Some decades later, a di...

Gun design and Historical question: Olympic IJ guns: IJ-1
One nugget that has cropped up in the discussions on this (some by PMs), is that it would be worth a quick look at the Russian language wikipedia article on quaternions. This contains an animated graphic representation of the quaternion system, and may illustrate why it is so relevant to gun design....

Re: Historical question: Olympic IJ guns: IJ-1
Thanks for the linguistic insights. It looks like the usual Russian notation of quaternions, however, is in Roman characters. Even in "Russian", it probably still is i,j, and k. For example, in this Russian language discussion of the quaterions, the i,j,k notation still is used for the mat...

Re: Hammerli 208S - 215S Slides
Perhaps the significant question and answer are the ones not stated: why did the old slide need repair? That could be relevant to the exchange question. The recoil spring (and rear safety if yours has it) geometry on the Hammerli 208/215 S can make that especially relevant. Also, if the 215S is the ...

Re: Hammerli 208S - 215S Slides
One needs to be a little careful about the slide swap, if one plans to return the 215S to the original configuration. The slides do wear into the gun. Use of the slide on another gun can create problems when it is returned to the original gun and visa versa, if lots of rounds are fired. One needs to...

Historical question: Olympic IJ guns: IJ-1
A historical question about the IJ-1 for others around when it first appeared. Was the name of this gun an insider pun or play on the Hamilton Quaternions (ij-1 and k) by Russian engineers and designers, or is the model name accidental (and the Izhvesk-Vostok staff really that ""unseeing&q...

Re: Hammerli 120 Trigger Adjustment
Although technically, any electronic trigger is a 2 stage trigger, in the older mechanical free pistols, the GSP in Free Pistol configuration is the only one that has a 2 stage trigger. The 120 is a 1 stage trigger. The 2 stage trigger was a special order option on the 120. The inner adjustment nut ...

Design considerations for pistols
For those interested in the design considerations for high accuracy pistols, particularly rim fire calibers, the link regarding rifles http://www.targettalk.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=46745 to an article comparing the early Bleiker and early G&E Racer rifles has some very good discussion of the...

Re: Free Pistol for Left Handers
Yes, the Pfuff Left Handed free pistol is a true left handed gun in all respects. All controls are on the opposite side, and the cant of the grip is for a left handed person. It also is sold. The other that could be considered a true LH gun is the LH Steyr. The reason for this is a little different....

Both rifles have changed. The design concepts and their bases are what might be of primary importance.

The slide import situation is a bit different than stated. Under current laws, any gun part must be imported using USA import and outgoing foreign source export permits, and must go through a licensed exporter and importer. Presence or absence of the SN is not material to this. Replacement slides ma...
