Monte, lengthen your sling and bring your left hand back as far as you can on the handguards. It's the only way to get a non-adjustable rifle like an AR15 to move fwd in relation to you. That allows your right shoulder to move fwd as well and it makes loading from the shoulder MUCH easier. I was pl...

Tim, Thanks for the response. The bit about the wide shoulders comes into play in two areas, near as I can tell. One, if I try to fit into the mould of what others are doing, w/ the left side either inline (parallel) w/ the bore or very close to it, the only way to do that with very wide shoulders i...

Loading from the shoulder in Prone...

Hello, I'm looking for some options for my Prone position in HP... I've had pretty good results w/ squaring up behind the gun and loading from the shoulder while practicing 50' smallbore, so I thought I might try that w/ my AR for 600... Guess what I'm looking at is this: I've been shown a prone pos...

Tim,

Are you saying that you had the spirit level pinched btwn the adjustable aperature, and the body of the sight? I'd wondered if that would work, and if it would take a 591-22 or a 591-18 since that area is smaller in diameter than where a 591-22 would normally clamp.

Thanks for the info,

Monte

Martin, Thanks, that sounds about like the Gehmann 581 I listed above; I've been looking thru Centra's stuff as well since I'd heard that Centra is the actual manufacturer of a number of Anschutz's items. I guess what I'm kind of hoping for is some way to screw the level in, and then something else ...

need some help w/ front sight setup

Hello, This isn't strictly speaking an air rifle or small bore question, but the sighting systems involved are similar enough I was hoping someone might have some experience w/ the pieces-parts and be able to chip in some advice. What I have is a custom Palma rifle in the works and the front sight I...

Now you know why a lot of HighPower shooters wear hooded sweatshirts under their shooting coats, even in the heat of the summer... it ain't cuz it looks cool! Most self-respecting AR shooters I know at least attempt to 'neuter' their ejector spring a little to get it to spit empties more towards 1:3...

Here in the U.S., there is 300m ISSF type competition, but it's kind of hard to find as not many ranges are set up for it. There is NRA HighPower, which encompasses a number of classes: First, there is Across (or Over) the Course shooting, referred to as OTC or XTC. Basically 3-position for centerfi...

Re: Highpower vs air

a .22 or an air rifle would not produce enough recoil for the purpose you want it for. My dad is a high power shooter. What he does is dry fires but has me move the barrel to simulate recoil. My advice is do the same. Get someone who knows recoil to simulate it. Have them move it in different direc...

Actually I just got an email back from German Salazaar (the moderator of the Florida Highpower and Smallbore forums). He just turned in an article to Precision Shooting on the rifles the US AMU guys were using in the matches; still a couple months out :( He'd mentioned in a post on the HP board abou...

Question for you who have shot the 300m 3-P (or even just the Prone): Are the 300m shooters pretty tolerant of letting people w/ gear that's technically not legal shoot along for fun? i.e. if a person shows up w/ a NRA HP 'hardback' heavy coat, most definitely non-ISU legal is anybody going to pitch...

Wow. Drool factor!! Anybody you know of making an adapter block like that for a Rem700 or something similar to an Anschutz stock? I can think of some ways to make one using a mold and some Devcon or AcraGlass, though access (and knowledge) to a CNC milling machine would probably be better. <sigh> Th...

http://www.champchoice.com/detail.php?item=2006875 or http://www.champchoice.com/detail.php?item=2000970 is what I had pictured in my mind as a 'free rifle'. Jose, I thought the Ross stock was more of a dedicated Prone gun? Would it have the movement needed in the directions necessary for Sitting a...

Now that 2007 does look pretty spanky, and about what I'd like to try. Not sure where the bolt handle would fall relative to the slot cutout once all the fiddling w/ the bedding was done. That, and it'd have to have the buttstock adjustment gutted. No time for dinking around w/ spacers. Not sure how...

Dunno. How much does an Anschutz stock run as far as $$$? I guess the one thing that might be a catch is if the belly of the stock extends too far down (more than 3-1/4" = Palm rest by the rules) though that can be trimmed down I guess. If you can point me at where on the Master Class stocks si...

Robert, Just out of curiosity, what exactly do you want a free-rifle stock for a 700 for anyway? I know the butthooks and palm rests aren't legal for NRA Highpower matches, so I'm kind of interested in what venue you are looking at. I've seen a couple shooters w/ the System Gemini stocks at a recent...

AFAIK, there are no 'free rifle' stocks for any domestic (U.S.) centerfire actions. HS Precision makes BR, hunting, and tactical stocks, nothing even remotely resembling position shooting stocks. That said, there are a number of pretty good 3-position and Prone stocks available. Keep in mind that NR...

trigger weight

Hello, I've been thumbing thru 'Ways of the Rifle' lately, especially the Offhand/Standing portion. One of the things that kind of surprised me was the recommended trigger weight: 60 grammes, or a little over 2 ounces. I'd always thought that light of a trigger was reserved for Benchrest competition...
