If that worked, why not just use a dark blinder and a dark filter, to force both eyes open to the same extent? You're asking for trouble having unequal light from each eye, its not just about visual perception. As always though, the OP should try it and see if his theory works for him.

<snip> I've not seen .17 caliber felts for use on a rod, and don't know if they make one. I use the rod type in my rimfires. Alan Yes they do make them, see my previous post above. I don't know who makes them but I'm sure a search through something like the Gehman catalogue will find them. Rob.

As Spencer and Ulrich rightly say, you want the same amount of light coming into both eyes, to keep both pupils the same. That translates to a cloudy/frosted translucent blinder being optimal. You may even benefit from matching the blinder when you add in a filter on the shooting eye, but I've perso...

Well, I guess I'll have to stir things up.... Rob, do you mean like a bronze brush (readers cringing in terror)? Personally, I break the end off a Q-Tip and shoot it. No. There is a cleaning kit that has felts impregnated with i think bronze fibres. These are used to 'scrub' the barrel using a rod....

I had heard from one of our (UK) gunsmiths that such fibres were a big cause of problems with regulators. I tend to think the loose fibres can get picked up on closing the breach, or get loosened when inserting (again depending on the specific gun). More importantly those felt pellets do very little...

Starch would be a temporary solution if it worked, but may well render any clothing used with it illegal (i.e. too stiff). I've never used it or heard of anyone using it, I'd suggest you try it on something you don't mind damaging and see if it works....

Sounds as though the grip doesn't fit quite right and the 'natural' position is for the gun to drop. You can try adjusting the gun / grip angle if it's something like a steyr that has screws in the frame around the grip.

I would think that switching between 25Y > 50M you should be able to come up with a rule that gets you 95% there, certainly close enough that a few sighters get you into the middle. Changing from 50 to 100 is slightly more difficult but even then you should be able to get pretty close if you write t...

I would suggest you need to determine your optimal foot and body position as an iterative process, with a good coach. Once you've found it, write and record the details, and then train it so that it's ingrained. There are of course many books that cover the process - eg ways of the rifle, but certai...

Re: Once more on wrist angle

But with that angle I cannot contract the forearm muscle, Why do you want to? As David rightly says, why would you ? You should be shooting in a relaxed state as much as possible. Contracting muscles will lead to tension and fatigue and you'll probably develope tennis elbow if you stick with it. I ...

Currently looking into a Steyr Mannlicher Match LP. Judging by Google image search I am assuming this is similar or identical to a Steyr LP-1. Is there any difference? From what I've read, I should be looking for a 'newer' one with a compensator and aluminium cylinders. I've pieced a lot of this to...

I'd have to say PCP. Got one for my wife and she had no problem shooting that.

The NSRA also run taster sessions where you can try different disciplines so look on the website or call them for details.

Whilst I agree with Tims comments, I still don't think a raiser in prone is the way to go - at least not without fully exploring all other options, and to do that you need the advice of a coach. I'm 5 foot tall, and have short arms and I have no problems prone, equally I've seen plenty of young, sma...

Hopefully she will not leave the shooting sports, as there are still shooting sports that do not require holding a heavy rifle, like benchrest.
Or pistol....

Re: New Shooter Equipment Question

In Smallbore 50 meter 3 position for women, is it legal to use a palm rest or a "riser" block in the prone or kneeling position? I see it says palm rest yes, standing in the rules, but I know I have talked to another parent whose son is shooting, and they were showing me his blocks he had...

It really doesn't matter what caused it, it's in the past and the future is what matters. That said it does happen to us all. I once shot something like a 2 or 3 in a free pistol final, at our national championships. The worst part is recovering from that for the next shot(s). I think the way to loo...

Re: LP50

has anyone considered making a 6 shot magazine for the LP, and will it work. We shoot some matches that require 6 shots and would like to bring out the Steyr? I have asked the factory but I have not got an accurate answer. My plan was to EDM a magazine. In the UK we have an expert gunsmith/importer...

Does rifles like Feinwerkbau and Walther have some kind of protection against overfilling in the regulator or trigger system ? What could happen, for example, if a shooter attaches a cilinder filled with 250 bar ? Simple valve lock or can some oring be blown ? Thank you. Theoretically they could ex...
