Could anyone recommend a timer?

Since the range where I train dosen't have turning targets, I was thinking of getting a timer of some sort which would audibly start after a programmable delay and then audibly signal when the time is up. It would (I hope) be more precise and less distracting than counting to myself "one thousa...

I agree that it isn't merely a question of how much ammo I burn through, but how much I can improve. What really concerns me is developing bad habits that would remain uncorrected since I am a "lone wolf" in this discipline at my range. My memories of police revolver shooting remind me tha...

How much ammunition do you shoot at each training session?

And what is ( or is there) a correlation between ammo consumption and scores? When I was shooting police revolver, I'd notice a big jump in scores whenever I'd shoot more ammunition in my twice a week practice sessions. I was wondering if International shooters noticed a carry over of this to other ...

First baby steps ---Rapid Fire training ideas, anyone?

I am trying to come up with a sound beginner's training plan. I have shot police revolver and centerfire in the past, but please keep in mind that I am new to this discipline so go easy on me! First plateau---dryfire, holding the weapon at the 45 deg. while looking at the base on the target stand, r...

For illustration I actually did shoot a nine of spades in half (at the distance of about 2 feet with the card stuck edge-wise in a bale of straw---Annie Oakley I'm not) using a centerfire revolver. Well not exactly in half, more like 2/3rds---the top 1/3rd of the card was completely gone after I mad...

An excuse to go shooting...

My 10 year old daughter is working on her first report on famous americans. She chose Annie Oakley (all on her own, btw) and part of requirement is to make a scrap book with momentos representing the life of the famous american that was chosen as the subject. So be special request... I'm off to shoo...

Yet another rapid fire question.....

Does anyone know what the distance between the centers of the B-39 50' gallery targets should be?
Thanks!

Thanks Jim,
I'll put that lyman mold on my shopping list. The pistol is a S&W M29. I used to have a 6" Python tricked out with custom grips and it was excellent with 148grain hbwc, but the M29 with .44spl I found to be far more accurate for me, so the Python had to slither off.

.44 Spl target load data?

I was thinking of entering a centerfire postal match, but my .38 target pistol is long gone---I do have the use of a .44 Spl but I was wondering if anyone here has any suggestions for loading match ammo for it? Something along the lines of tried and true recipes such as 2.7 grains of Bullseye behind...

Where to focus while waiting for the target to turn?

Hans Standl in Pistol Shooting As A Sport writes that the sights should be checked while in the 45 deg ready position before the target turns (if I'm reading this correctly) while David E. Frierson in the NRA International Shooting Handbook prefers looking at the base of the target with the pistol a...

Re: Setting up for rapid fire

I am right handed and shoot right to left. I began [ with help fron John McNallys' father ] by aligning my natural point of aim with the middle target but later changed to the next to last target, This was because I was tightening up as I moved across the targets and having the most difficulty with...

how "aggressive" do you clean the bore? It makes me shiver to read such words. With a self lubricating .22 it is unecessary to clean the bore, [ except for pushing a soft patch through it occassionally ] in fact the most accuracy usually comes from leaving it alone. Cleaning everything el...

Thank you! Since I lean towards the left to right direction I'll stick with that for now.
I'm very new to this course of fire and I find it both challenging and a lot of fun!

For the same reasons I like sitting around a camp fire or listening to the surf. It is a link to the distant past when man knew he was a part of a greater thing instead of thinking that he is the greater thing. A time when skill at building a fire and skill at arms meant something important (unlike ...

Left to right or right to left...

...when shooting the rapid fire course? How did you decide which direction? My right eye is dominant and I shoot with my right hand (although I am left handed) it seems that under thiese conditions I should shoot right to left so I'd have the target on "my" left in view, but some shooters ...

Cleaning the rapid fire pistol

I was wondering how the shooters here went about cleaning .22 lr rapid fire pistols--how often and how "aggressive" do you clean the bore? The ammunition I'm testing---RWS Rifle Target, SK Standard Plus, and CCI Standard Velocity all appear to be heavily lubricated with a dark waxy substan...
