Re: Kowa TSN-1 a good spotting scope for smallbore outdoor prone?

Just a tip:

I've found that zoom eyepieces and scopes are generally crap. Spent the same or more for a good single power eyepiece.

Re: Aguila 22 LR-SE Standard Velocity Ammunition

Nice work!

Your testing indicates that one might use higher velocity ammo than Standard for target use.
I found this out while using CCI Blazer instead of SV during a .22 crunch. Cheap, too!

Re: Cast Bullet - Home Lube

Lee Alox works pretty well, even with some of my rifle loads. I sometimes cut it with some mineral spirits. Just toss around in a baggie.

Re: Advice - grip angle

Surprisingly, a light touch with a low flame blowtorch for 10-15 seconds, whilst moving it around the “patch area” will allow the “patch” to easily be pryed off, once it gets sufficiently warm, no grinding involved. Then you can try a different amount or shape of epoxy putty. Once you get close, a ...

Re: Update my Toz-35 or buy a FP60 ?

I have a TOZ-35. Every repair I needed I fixed with S&W springs, paper clips, and files. They have held up better than original parts.

Re: Load Testing Protocols

Something I forgot to mention: headspace and crimping. Invariably .45 cases are erratic in length. The .45 is supposed to headspace on the case mouth but doesn't. Some claim that the cartridge will headspace on the extractor. I'm dubious. The answer is to headspace on the bullet and use a roll crimp...

Re: Load Testing Protocols

Steve T's stuff looks good.

I would start with the lead bullets (cheaper), and Bullseye (been used in the .45 for over 100 years).

Two inch groups at 50yds. would be GREAT!

Re: Advice on S&W model 41

I find a toothbrush is sufficient to clean my 41, usually just prior to a match. I'll also take a bore brush to the chamber at that time. I have found CCI Standard ammo to be perfectly satisfactory and cheap. I used a lot of different "crap" ammo during the "Great .22 Shortage", ...

Free pooters

Is anyone trying/using the CCI (or other) low velocity .22s in their Free pistol? I'm not talking about Standard Velocity ammo.

How's that working out for you?

Re: Improving Garbage National Paper Targets?

Cackle! I shot a really big match once upon a time. At the end of the match they had cartons of top quality targets with only one shot on each one. A couple of those cartons went home with me.

Re: FWB Models 2, C5, C10, C55, & C60 cylinder availability

So, many of you find this rule stupid and useless? You feel no need to comply with it?

Many gunsmiths have a set of numeral stamps. Have one "date" your cylinders for you.

I won't tell.

Re: Removing a Daisy 599 Barrel

I don't know the answer to your question. If the crown is only a little screwed, you can put a brass round head screw in a drill, coat it with valve grinding compound, and polish it out.

If you use Fine grinding compound you can use the leftover to "firelap" a few bores.

Re: Replacing rear sight on a Toz 35

I was unhappy with the rear sight AND front sight. The front sight leaned to the left, so I used a mill file to cut down the top of the rear at downward angle to the left. I didn't like the rear sight either, so I took a 3/16" chain saw file (very cheap) and cut the famed Russian half moon notc...

Many of the guys here use plastic screw anchors. Very cheap at a hardware store (many matches give them away) and last a long time. They MAY feed through your magazine.
