Thanks Steve. I'm not all there yet. When I think I have it right, the best way I can explain it is like a vision change. I am aware of the target but only as a 'floating' blob bouncing around behind and above the sight picture. More practise needed :)

Actually the front pin is drifting to the left in the sight picture (compared to the back sight). What a novice - can't even tell my left from my right :) Have been doing much better the past week. I'm treating the target as basically a second thought. All my concentration is on the sight picture. T...

Front sight drifting to the right

Hi All, I'm spending lots of time on the Rika and now learning to analyse my 'form'. One thing I have noted is that the longer I hold the more the front sight pin drifts to the right and it take a real concious effort to centre it again. My holds vary from 6 to nearly 20 seconds. A 'good' Rika Trace...

Ah - good tip. That's exactly what was happening.

Application of a little silicon grease has done the trick. Cylinders are filling and disconnecting fine now.

I've always wondered why people say AP is harder than Sports or Standard pistol. I shoot way, way better with my AP than I do with my .22 (a whole grade better). You say that the problem is not with the gun but with you, so why would you expect to shoot better with a different pistol? I still don't ...

Shooting in less than ideal conditions

I have read that one should avoid practise when tired or mentally drained etc. I decided to shoot on the trainer last night after a very trying day at work and my performance was terrible. But there was an upside, I was able to actually relax somewhat and was able to identify why I was shooting so b...

I don't want to speak for John but I do agree with the sentiment. I think we are all aware of the limitations of the system as a "scoring system" but it still does provide a means of measuring performance improvement doesn't it (ie comparing Rika/Scatt sessions to each other rather than tr...

Thanks Guys. I'm happy with my stance feet placement and torso alignment) built up over 20 years of archery for balance. My shoulder position is comfortable, alignment wise, but I lock it down with muscular effort and over the course of a match the muscles fatigue and the shoulder position changes. ...

Hmmmm - I'm now worried that I am worse than I thought.... I haven't changed any of my settings from default and am shooting 5m on a scaled down target for that distance. Do I need to change the Rika to say I'm shooting at 5m?

Pistol Arm - Shoulder position

Is there an ideal position for the pistol arm shoulder? ie I shoot with my shoulder pulled down and back but I see a great many other shooters with a high shoulder, more in line with the head (and seemingly tucked into the jaw in extreme cases). There has to be close to 15-20 degrees alignment diffe...

Look for deals. I got a great deal on a Rika system from Potter Firearms (Australia) because I was willing to take the old Serial model rather than the new USB model.

Steyr Green o Ring Lubricant

Hi all, Well I thought there was a problem with my air cylinders emptying when connecting/disconnecting from my hand pump but on closer inspection I can see that screwing the cylinders on/off are tearing at the O-Ring. What type of lubricant should I use? I know the manual says acid free silicon gre...

The RED is the last 10 seconds of hold, the green is 1 second before, the blue is 0.3 seconds before and the violet is 6 seconds of follow through.

Thanks Rob, that makes sense. I did note in last nights sessions I was becoming more aware of where the 'fliers' were going before I looked at the computer screen and in most cases it was because I had 'over corrected' trying to get the aim back into the centre.

A question on something Rob mentioned. I am holding for that perfect alignment (first problem) by 'refining' my aim/hold to 'force' it into the target centre.

Now is refining the aim/hold to smaller and smaller oscillations around the centre a bad thing or have I misinterpreted Rob?

Cheers

I know that Steve, Ed, David and Rob are right in their assessments - now I just need to overcome the problems :) I find it interesting that sometimes I come to hold on the target and I observe no perceptable oscillation at all yet other days I seem to be all over the place (yet the Rika shows I'm h...

Would posting the .rk files be better t...

I love critique - good or bad. I'm going to be a novice for some time so I need to rely on others experience so I hope that no-one holds back :)

BUT - I have probably hijacked someone elses thread and should start my own....
