My interests lie primarily with AP but any of the .22 discipline, as a secondary, including free pistol hold my interest. I don't think CF will hold great interest for me except perhaps Service - but thats at leat 18 months down the track. At present I am getting good groups (good as in a solid 8 or...

Yeah, I've looked over quite a few Aussie sites and all bar 2 of the advertised second hand pistols are so called plinkers and one of those 2 is a .22SR - so not much to choose from at the moment. I'm not interested in any pistol that is not capable of shooting Master grade scores. Are 'plinkers' ca...

I think second hand is my only option now. I just checked the prices today and all new pistols just jumped $500 in price..... Sign of the times I guess and with a small market (I'm in the Aussie capital and the nearest dealer is 500km away) no expectation of the prices ever coming down again. Cheers...

Yep - it's all good but it does expect that one has time with all the pistols. Frankly thats not an option (in reality I might get a half dozen shots in but themn I might only get to handle and not fire most). In the end, as a novice, I have no idea what causes the gun to recoil in my hand. Sometime...

Well I guess that is the issue with being a novice. I've fired a couple of different pistols and differences in recoil did not register - neither did balance, position of trigger or total weight. As long as my finger can touch the trigger - whats the issue? As long as the sights are adjustable - wha...

Choosing a Pistol

Everyone says try a pistol first to see how it feels before buying BUT isn't that just grip and trigger? Given then that grips can be replaced, what difference is there really between pistols (assuming top quality pistols). Now as advanced shooters you may be able to detect things such as recoil and...

My training technique is with wrist weights (1.2kg each). I've been following along with some training guides from Pistols Australia. Multiple sets of raise and hold for 20 seconds then down and rest for 10 then a new set of hold for 30 seconds and rest for 20 etc up to sets of hold for 60 seconds t...

My instructor has been monitoring my postings and gave me a list of Aussie Web sites. Looks like the market isn't quite as small as I had feared. A few pistols out there including the Hammerli 208 and Unique DE69U. I see an IZH-35M going new for a reasonable price as well and the Match Gun MG2 appea...

Dealing with Fatigue

I was introduced to rapid Fire in session 3 (target faces for 3 seconds). We ran the routine several times - face on for 3, off for 7, on for 3 etc for the 5 shots. My first shot was always good, my second shot OK then I started to falter - to such an extent that on the 6th round of 5 Rapid Fire I m...

Hey Au Guest, Thats sounds good. There are a few shooters locally with the AW93 so I should be able to get my hands on one to try sooner or later. Today I had the opportunity to shoot with a Steyr LP10. WOW, it fit like a glove and my 7 shots produced a nice group that would fit inside the 8 ring. I...

I think I would prefer something that has been around for a while so second hand isn't a problem - its just that the second hand market seems pretty small and I don't want to buy something just because it is all that is available when I am legal to own.

I should point out that a Steyr LP10/2 is on the top of my AP list and I will be buying both an AP and Sports .22 (I just haven't had an opportunity to shoot an AP yet.) I am shooting well enough at the moment to keep my shots inside the 8 ring at 25m (thats after 2 sessions). I've also been watchin...

Well thats several tens of thousands of posts as a minimum. Going back as far as June I see nothing exept individual 'issue' type posts with a handful of .22 types (at least from what I can decipher) - perhaps you have some recommended threads? Is it possible to have some of these 'common threads' c...

Seeking opinions on a competition .22

I'm a novice. To date I have shot with a Hammerli 208 and a Hammerli 280 (the 280 is much nicer than than 208). I know I should try as many as I can BUT here in Australia the market is small and the pool of pistols to try is even smaller. Money is no object (within reason - ie I may be able to buy b...

Just finished my second session with a Hammerli 208 with good groups (10's and 9's). Better grip alignment and a change in triggering are no doubt the reason. My instructor suggested I try her Hammerli 280 and it was better though the wrist position had to change to suit the grip (wrist twisted down)

OK - No my sights aren't naturally perfectly aligned - I have to work on wrist to align it. Given that it is a club pistol and not adjustable, what are the chances that I will find at least near perfect alignment with a grip change alone? Invariably I find the foresight way too high. (Left and right...

Sight alignment after the shot

I'm a novice having just started shooting pistol (.22 sports/standard) (I had shot service pistol in the services some 30 years ago). I understand the stance, sight alignment and aiming concepts (I'm a 20 year veteran of Target Archery) so I now have to learn grip and triggering.... After reviewing ...
