Lou's Shop
I talked to him a couple of months ago and the shop was under construction. I think he said it would be about 1,500 sf. So he could be moving in soon. That being said, he's usually a year or two out on work and I'm sure he has some stuff sitting and waiting. He had me take all the contact info off h...

FWIW, Lou Lombardi (www.falconmachining.com) tells people to never put any metal in his barrels. With each barrel he supplies a piece of weed whip line. One end is pointed, the other has been melted to form a little mushroom head/button. You thread patches onto the line and pull them through the bar...

Converting Guns
On a different thought, being pretty new to shooting, I have frequently wondered why it is so common to convert guns into something else. Some strive to turn their .22's (through Marvel conversions) into .45's or air pistols into .45's. If the goal is to become better at shooting a .45, why not sho...

A few years ago I brought a couple of pistols in from Oz on a Form 6. Did all the paperwork and my friendly neighborhood FFL sent it in. ----wait 8 weeks---- The guns came just fine via Oz post, but when they got to the US our Customs missed them and they arrived at the FFL unopened and without the ...

more free targets
I posted a bunch of free targets when I did Lou Lombardi's site for him. http://falconmachining.com/
These are all 8 1/2 x 11 and fit well in the Outers steel rimfire traps that sell for about $70.

welding cracked frame
Lou Lombardi has a guy that he uses for welding cracked High Standard frames. He did one for me a few years ago, remachined the welded area and had the frame reblued. Sad to say, it did re-crack. I have a TIG welder myself and know that it can be tough to weld on contaminated material, so I'm guessi...

Sear Protection
To continue OT, hold the triggner back when cocking the weapon so the sear doesn't drag and wear from sliding and clicking on the hammer half-cock and full-cock hooks. This is the bullseye-l consensus IIRC. Pull trigger, cock & hold hammer, release trigger, release hammer. Takes twenty times as ...

cheap weights/calibration
The only problem with cheap weights, and I am a bonafide cheapskate, is that you have to know how much they weigh. They are only as accurate as the scale you used to measure them with. So if you want to go really nuts: In the U.S., you will find government people called "Weights & Measures....

Maybe a Kart?
If you can find a Kart conversion instead, I believe it is generally thought to be a better choice. I really like mine. I understand the Marvel has an aluminum slide where the Kart is all steel. The problem is that there are not too many of these that show up for sale on the used market and when the...

Jim Spacek Link
Just noticed that it doesn't work as shown because the BBS software has included the period at the end of the sentence in the link url. Try it without the period and it should work.

Texas High Standards
Not to argue with Bob, but to put it politely, there are many "issues" with the Texas guns. The majority of High Standard people consider them to be of low quality and there are business ethics issues reported with some regularity. I suggest you look at Jim Spacek's HS forum: http://www.tm...

For those who don't know, Larry Carter is one of the very top NRA 3-gun shooters in the country and IMHO a great guy. I would trust him to give me the benefit of his expertise and to be be absolutely truthful with me if I was interested in any of his used guns.

safes/yes
I agree with Chris. And anther point: Before I bought my safe, several people told me that it would immediately fill up -- so buy a big one. They were right. In addition to protecting my guns, my brother appeared one day with several guns for me to store, plus there are the income tax and investment...

safes/fires
There was a big discussion of this a couple/three years ago on the Bullseye list. IIRC the problem is that the heat shielding material is basically water, in the form of gypsum board or something like that. The water turns to steam by absorbing heat, slowing the temp rise in the safe. So you end up ...
