Way back when I was an undergrad (40+ years ago) I worked in a steel mill, on the furnace. I periodically had to use an "oxygen lance" - an iron pipe 10 foot long to start out and 500-750 psi oxygen. To remove chunks of slag, you'd stick the pipe end into the furnace get it to red heat and...

SP08

OK, looks like the Demyan SP08 is real. Any information that can be shared yet?

Not quite there yet!

Unfortunately not there yet. Checked Wolff and the springs for the M41 are 7lb with 8lb as the "extra power" option. Marvel Unit1 uses a 9lb as the softer and standard, with 12lb as the option.
So I need to try again. Anyone know the source?

Second source for Marvel springs?

Turns out Marvel Precision has no export permit. New rules - bloody politicians!
Anyone know of an alternate source for Unit1 springs? Wolff doesn't list them, nor does Brownell's - I need a set of the 12 lb. springs. I'd appreciate it if anyone could point me to a source, please.

By the time they get the power up to the point where the target system works, it will become 'dangerous'. Kilowatt, Megawatt? output sufficient in picosecond time?
Glad I'm too old and decrepit to play laser-tag.

Sounds like it was a gun built for PPC. Weigh it first to see if it makes the weight restriction for ISSF, doesn't matter for NRA but you might want to do a lot of pumping iron to be able to comfortably handle it.

Scope on Smith

Generally I don't have much of a problem with making extra holes in guns - I build odd things like a pure wadcutter S&W model 10 -short cylinder, chopped frame, 5" heavy barrel and old Bowmar rib - but that process would be outside of my tolerances. And since I had my lenses replaced, I can...

Just for those of us who are a little removed from the hub of all things NRA, where might one find the rules for the Harry Reeves match(s). The rules for the Harry Reeves Match are found in the bulletin for the National Matches at Camp Perry. I believe the bulletin provides that the NRA Conventiona...

As I've always understood it, "thumbing" is applying pressure with the thumb on the grip - either down or towards the palm. Thumb should "just lie there" to avoid this. Heeling is more complicated, and anticipation of recoil or a loose grip may allow the gun to twist up-right in ...

Location of Rules?

Just for those of us who are a little removed from the hub of all things NRA, where might one find the rules for the Harry Reeves match(s). I know the Distinguished Revolver regs are in the NRA rulebook, but in all my searches on-line, I've been unable to locate the Reeves rules. And since we have, ...

Modern Pentathlon rules.

Thanks David for the direction to the changed rules. I do note that the committee voted 41 to 0 in favour of the change. Seems to me that it means a substantial increase in costs for MP local committees, and a major step in the "dumbing down" of the sport. When I started shooting, these ki...

Laser - Inspection stickers

I count 12 inspection stickers on the pistol shown - were there that many competitions in which the "laser" was used?
Where are the rules for this type posted?

NGCguns - nonfunctional

I've been occasionally looking at the ngcgasguns site for a couple of years and wondered what they used for magazines as I understood their 32 was an SWL and not an ACP. In anycase, now moot as both sites are off line, the one that was working is gone - for "non-payment of fees". Anyone kn...

TOZ age

I wouldn't worry about it, as long as it works and the internals are not worn out. Mine was MN1087 and I bought it used in 1977, the book had a test date of 1962 in it. As I recall the design goes back to at least 1960 and probably to mid 1950s.

Cross-dominance

I am one of those unfortunates as well, but for 35 years I shot by assuming a completely "open" stance - feet directly at right angle to the target, chin on right shoulder, and thus could look straight down the arm and sights. For short periods I have tried to use the subordinate eye, but ...

doubling

Check the "lump" on the trigger bar. I had a Walther KSP200 version that came to me as "non-functional" - it would occasionally double, occasionally shoot just one. The missng lump on the trigger bar was the interrupter and once welded back on the gun functioned perfectly irrespe...

Tri-Ace

I built grips for a set about 5 years ago. Solid piece, but some bits looked suspect. Previously only saw one used at the Western Canada Games way back in 1983!
