Dry firing
The mechanism on the 601 has a valve like a PCP would, so dry firing it isn't going to destroy the mechanism. It just has a striker that hits a poppet-type valve and empties the compression chamber.

Rear sights
These have more than enough elevation: http://www.wssg.net/wst_page4.html (the E5-D at the bottom of the page). It has 66 minutes of elevation, cost me $200 shipped and has performed flawlessly after 6 months on my air rifle.

A screwdriver

I have a FWB 601, and the only tools I need to adjust the trigger are a small flat-bladed screwdriver for length of first stage, sear engagement, shoe position, etc. Adjusting pull weight doesn't need any tools. I don't know anything about the 300, though.
